Hi all, hoping for some practical help and info.
I work for a large public transport company as a data analyst.
A couple of weeks ago myself and 3 colleagues were put on 'at risk of redundnacy' notice as the company said they were facing increased financial problems and advised us that our work had diminished in the last 12 months and that our work would be given to another dept to do as it could be comfortably absorbed. The other dept is in the same office but a higher grade than our own. The unions had consultation meetings where everything was spelled out and the union had asked us for facts and figures and evidence of our workload which we duly supplied.
The figures show that in the last 12 months the load has remained constant and infact has increased in the last 3. The union requested that the other dept should also be put at risk too to give everyone the chance to apply for the jobs which they declined. They also asked the company to supply facts and figures to prove the workload had diminished which on two occasions at other consultation meetings they have failed to supply now.
At todays meeting the company has now changed direction and said that although our worload is there the other depts workload has also decreased and that they would rather move our work to their dept rather than vice versa.
Despite us supplying a lot of info and facts and figures the company are determined to see this through regardless of supplying evidence.
To me somthing doesnt sit right and the union dont seem keen to push it on our behalf. My questions are these-
Does this seem correct. We have proved our workload is there so is this more a cost cutting exercise rather than a true redundncy and does this give us a case for unfair dismissal. Im not prepared to sit back and allow my job to be taken away just to make it easier for them.
As a side note the other dept arent happy that they will have to do two peoples work with the added pressure and deadlines for no extra pay. They have contracts and job descriptions and doing our job is not part of it.
Any help is appreciated.
