As I understand it now, there are three seperate recalls.

1) The sticking accelerator on certain models.

2) The Prius due to the unique energy-capturing brake system

3) The Camry and certain Lexus' due to leaking brake fluid.

Have I missed one or gotten one wrong?

This is what happens when you delete anything remotely exciting from the range (Supra, Celica, MR2).

Nature finds a way... to make something in the range exciting to drive.

And the media are having a wkfest over it. To listen the BBC you would think anybody driving a Prius would have to be a suicidal maniac.

I hope the media will also have a go at Honda - according to something I read earlier, over half a million are being recalled for various problems.

Why? The media having a pop is not going to help anything. You'll just end up with a bunch of idiot drivers who think their car is suddenly a death trap.

The slipping mat in the US.
Actually, the slipping mat, while contributing, did turn out to be a sticking pedal. That is what the shim was sent in to correct.

I think 634,000 are being recalled for a window switch that allows water in and catches fire. Not sure which model.

Read about another Honda recall today on the BBC as well.

Thankfully my Toyota isn't affected, it's too old. Have there been any deaths in the UK due to the sticking throttle problem?

Jimbeaux - the pedal sticks, regardless of whether mats are in the car or not.

The mats are an issue - hence recall notices to remove them from vehicles until a fix is developed.

The Prius also has an alleged cruise control software issue, it just happens to be alleged by a founder of Apple Computer, so he is generally accepted by the population as knowing the difference between software and hardware faults.

There is also an alleged steering issue.

You may have misunderstood me, I was saying that the pedal stuck regardless of the mat. I agreed. smile

There is a steering issue with the Priius but that is an old one from Sept 2006ish and includes Avensis and Corolla as below.

Is there a new one to this?

Concern : STEERING MAY FAIL
Description : It is possible that the connections at the intermediate shaft and sliding yoke of the steering column may become loose and if the symptoms are ignored steering control can be lost.
Remedial Action : Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the steering intermediate shaft. In addition, inspect the sliding yoke and intermediate shaft extension and replace if necessary. This recall is staggered starting with Prius and Corolla. Avensis customer letters will be sent out over the next three months

My note: if the symptoms are ignored. Just thought I'd point that out.
