Turkish Grand Prix - Anybody been - Recommendations...

Morning PH People...
Have the (un)enviable task of being best man for a mates wedding in June this year. Rather than just head to a random city and drink and letch until the braincells can't cope any longer, decision has been made to try and visit a European GP. Reckon this will make for a very memorable stag - other activities will of course be included but they will be peripheral. The stag, along with 95% of the stag party are motorsport daft with at least 50% actively competing in one form or another so I think it is a bit of a cert...
Turkey - Attractions are it being out of the Euro-zone, ticket prices look pretty advantageous compared to standing on a bleak featureless Northamptonshire airfield (
). The obvious weather benefits, and from a brief bit of research so far seems to indicate flights and accomodation prices look pretty favourable/reasonable. How difficult is it to access the circuit from staying in Istanbul? Hire car or or any transport links?
Has anybody undertaken the trip and has any cast iron recommendations or things to 100% avoid. Any help would be greatly appreciated - organising a stag is like trying to put an octopus into a string bag or herd a load of cats
If there is also anywhere recommended in Istanbul for a few beers and to explore the flora and fauna - it of course wouldn't go amiss either...

the problem is that the best bit of the city is on the other side of the bosphorous bridge to the circuit. it's one of the worst places for traffic in the whole city, which generally is quite bad for traffic. if the track is going to be the main thing, then i'd suggest stay on the east side, and it will be easier to get into the good bits of town on the west side in the evening after the commuter traffic has died down.

I went to the Turkish GP in 2007, but I was driving in from Ankara rather than Istanbul. That said, I had no issues driving to the event and parking (arriving just as the Porsche Cup race was starting), and getting back to the Ankara-Istanbul toll road after the event was not terribly difficult either. But again I wasn't heading back into Istanbul. Tickets were not a problem, I drove up that day and bought Gold level tickets in the main stands right across from the Ferrari and McLaren pits, about 10-15 rows up. The stands were probably only 50% full, so I had no problem going all the way down to one end to watch the end of the long straight and the turns leading up to the pit straight, then down to the other end to watch them go into turns 1 and 2. It was well worth the money, but I wish I had got there early enough for the GP2 race.
As said above, the best parts of Istanbul are on the west side of the Bosphorus Strait, and so is the airport. The track is on the outskirts of the east side of the city. I know there is train service between Ankara and Istanbul, but I don't know about any kind of local service that might get you near the circuit.
