Going to Jersey - want to buy DSLR VAT-free

Few questions...
1) What's the most efficient way to organise this? Buy something online (but with a UK credit card) but have it sent to the friend that I'm visiting. Or just go to a camera shop in Jersey?
2) Is a Jersey warranty valid in the UK? I assume so but don't know.
3) Anyone care to recommend the best DSLR for around £500?
