Hey

Can we safely say that with 28 days (and only 22 days to get the cars and team on a plane) until the first practice session at Bahrain and the US F1 car yet to appear that they will not be on the grid ?

I'd stick a few quid on them not being there, would have done with Campos as well but rumors are Mr Ecclestone is giving them the financial backing they need. I'd say USF1 won't make it, and Stefan GP will take their place.

Not 100% certain until Bahrain practice, but I would happily bet 99 Jaffa cakes out of 100. wink

Mosley's minions certainly cocked up the whole "let's choose the most financially stable teams for the future of the sport."

USF1 - Probably dead in the water
Campos - Probably being bought out by Bernie and other cronies after Tony Texeira's drug and arms money didn't materialise. 50%
Lotus F1 - effectively another manufacturer F1 team, just like Mosley wanted to get rid of.
Virgin F1 - Probably the underdog on paper, but with the deal put together by Bernie it was certain of an entry. Surprisingly they seem the most likely to succeed in the long run.

I HOPE they don't make it, no room for Americans in this sport......nah, only joking, but from what i understand the team doesn't deserve a spot on the grid, would much rather it went to Stefan GP, who are ready to race, just need a place on the grid.

What would Stefan GP be expected to do - surely they don't have a finely developed F1 car sitting around doing nothing in the hope someone doesn't make it?

I'd be suprised if the Toyota wasn't a good car aswell, i really want to see them get USF1 or Campos' place on the grid.

They already sent a load of equipment to Bahrain just in case they get a place, and even if they don't they intend to test the car all year at F1 circuits, and hope to enter it in 2011 instead.

Its all about viewing figures and sponsorship though, Bernie wants the big money from America, but i don't ever see it happening, and i don't think F1 needs it either, not from a spectators point of view anyway.

I thought there was something in the ruling though that said its too late for a new boy to jump in even if they are ready to go.

Something along the lines of:

:bouncermode: 'Your names not down (on the concorde agreement), you're not coming in' :bouncermodeoff:

So in other words, Mosley and his cronies got these people to sign up and were going to be the saviour of the sport, and they cant even manage to act as a mobile chicane for the established teams on circuit rolleyes

I reckon they may make it, possibly Campos too, but I doubt it will be pretty.

I have a suspicion that room for Stefan GP may be made simply by allowing more teams. Just a hunch though.

Bernie will find a way... give the other teams 50% of non-showing teams allocation for 2010 - should keep them happy; whilst ensuring Stefan GP get lots of coverage and profiling on the TV networks to balance off any loss of funds.... Phoenix from the Ashes, etc...

i reckon it will be a farce, they will claim to have sent 2 cars and there equipment by freight, yet come practice theyll be nothing.

but thats my humble opinion.

Why on earth should they?
Maybe you have forgotten that they were given an entry about 3 years ago and totally failed to put a team into place.
In fact, bizarrely, USF1 are further down the road with a F1 team than Prodrive ever were when they were given an entry....!

(By my count David Richards has had about 4 attempts at having his own F1 team and has failed to achieve it every time.)

They don't deserve the place - they were given an entry a couple of years ago and failed to put a team into place!
They deserve an entry more than some of the new teams as DR knows what is required to run an F1 team.

They didn't fail to put a team in place, they were excluded because an exsistng 'smaller' team refused to agree to them running a customer car that McLaren was ready to supply them once it was agreed by all the teams.

I think Wirth have done a credible job so far and as for the wing falling off show me a team that this has never happened to and I'll show you a team that are not pushing design as far as they should.

As for USF1, I hope they make the grid as it would be good to see how good or bad a job they have doen. They are the only team of the Cosworth cars not running an Xtrac gearbox and have gone for a transferse gearbx design (not sure why but they must have their reasons).

DR has had tons of opportunities to have his own F1 team but the deal always falls-over.
I wonder why?.......

Because he is clever and doesn't want to spend/lose his own money on something he can't do to the level that is required to be successful. Nothing wrong with walking away and waiting for the right time. Wise men and fools and all that, spring to mind.

I have worked for him at two F1 teams and if given the chance would work for him again if he set up a new team as I would have every confidence the team would still be around a year later if it was his team.

I have my doubts on a few of the new teams lasting a season, that's assumming they get to the first race or are still on the grid for the first European race. I really hope I am wrong as they should be applauded not ridculed for having a go.
