MK2 fiesta 1.4s
Discussion
I am currently restoring a mk2 XR2 ('88) so know a bit (but not everything, by a long shot!) about these.
Almost all of the mk2 cars that are on the road now are XR2s, just because "lesser models" have generally passed by and haven't been worth restoring or repairing. A good, low mileage XR2 will go for £1200 - £1500 I would guess, with concourse cars going for £2500 and up. A bogo-standard model will fetch less, obviously.
You might find that your 1.4 is worth a bit if the shell is in good condition. People with XR2s will be interested in using the shell for their own cars.
Is it a sunroof model? The big weakness on these cars is rust - and if its got a sunroof, the 4 drain holes feed down into the sills. Yes, you read that right. INTO the sills!! The water then sloshes around and drains out of drilled holes in the bottom of the sills. As you can imagine, they then rust from the inside of the sills.
Rust is also a killer on the inner wings and arches. In fact, rust can and will attack the mk2 shell any and everywhere so worth a really good look all over.
Have a look at the kick panels just to the side of where the pedals are. Does it look water damaged or warped? If so, water is coming in through the floor there. You can see daylight through my floor in those areas at the moment.
Is there anything else you want to know?

Do you have any pics of the car?
I had an '86 1.4S as my first car many years ago and would love to see some photos of one in good condition, mine always had cosmetic issues, rust along welds and rear arches.
It also suffered from water ingress through the drivers side into the back of the fuse box but suspect that was just my car, turned out to be a badly repaired accident damaged example.
The panard rod on mine snapped, I replaced it with one from a later XR2i.
Fun little cars but not quite the XR2 I really craved.
