A mate at work told me today that he is up in court on Friday.

Got pulled over last June (blown bulb or something) and got a producer. He only produced the plastic part of his license as he didnt have anything else! Well a copper gave him a summons last week for no MOT, tax, insurance or license.

Of course he has a license and can produce it all in court, and curently has tax mot and insurance on his current car.

Looks to me like he'll get done for no tax, insurance or mot. So what will he be looking at?

Points?
Ban?
Fine?

BiB - any suggestions?

I dont condone his behaviour in any way, he just wanted some idea of what he might be in for.

Cheers guys,

MrF

Sorry, but IMHO if he had no tax, MOT and partic insurance I hope he gets the book thrown at him.

We get fleeced for insurance because my girlfriend is under 30 and has never has any claim and we are paying for the b@stards who dont pay, etc.

I am fed up with paying for everone else in this country because this government cannot be arsed to enforce its own laws except for the easy targets. If I took their attitude I would be sacked in an instant!!

Am I bitter, yes, I may have been done for slightly speeding today and the BIB couldnt be arsed when I was burgled and when our car was done over on the drive last week..... (girlfriends car actually - sob)

As long as he wasn't speeding, then he will probably just get a small fine

Mr Flibbles

From your scenario:

Only produced his plastic Licence and not also the counterpart:

Fail to produce Driving Licence. Fine up to &1000

No Excise Licence. Up to 5 times the amount of Duty, plus amount that has been missed (back Duty). Up north severe on this one - at least well into 3 figures..

No Insurance. Fine up to &5000 - Disqualification at the discretion of the Bench - between 6 and 8 penalty points.

No MOT - Fine up to &1000.

Fail to produce Insurance and test certificate - Fine up to &1000.

Plus CPS Prosecution fees - up here anywhere between 40 - 50 pounds.

Note the fines stated are the maximum that can be imposed and an enquiry will be made as to your friends financial standing which may reflect on the punishment awarded.

Warn him that because of the Insurance offence that he should be in possession of his plastic Licence AND the Counterpart when he attends Court.

There was a news item the other day that suggested the average penalty for no insurance was 3 points and £90.

Astonished me too...

Did you mate have his tax, insurance etc valid at the time?

If he did, I would have thought he could only be done for failing to produce. If not, they'll probably throw the book at him.

Lets see £800 for one car £280 for another and £320 for the third Vs. £30 and points if caught.

The article on the BBC website (and others?) was wrong. No insurance carries 6-8 points and a max fine of up to £5,000. The average is 6 points and fine in the range of £250 - £1500, depending on income.

Yep well better .....

But still a lot less than having to tax and insure a car, and you don't need to stress about your standard of driving, saftey of others, speeding, MOTs.....

And then again you are unlikley to get nicked for anything so why bother.

This Labour Bliar Government actually encourage people to drive with no insurance, as they are already putting a Tax on the Insurance premiums of law abiding motorists to help fund any accidents caused by uninsured drivers.

Slightly off subject, but....

Recently had an old banger I used for a runaround broken into and trashed. Whilst making the decision as to whether I should repair / sell or scrap it a 24hr notice of removal was slapped on it.

Went to council offices to prove ownership and assure them I was doing something about it because I didn't want to be charged big bucks for the council taking it upon themselves to crush my car. So the bloke behind the desk says, well, if we remove it on our own accord then we don't chase up the owner, but if you want to arrange for us to remove it for you then it will be £30!

So, if you have a car you want to scrap, just leave it abandoned on any street. The council will crush it for you and won't even bother to look at the number plate and chase up the owner. On the other hand, if you don't want to abuse your neighbourhood, it will cost you £30.

What a bunch of Tw*ts! If that isn't encouraging low-lifes to dump cars then what is!

Mr Groom....

Tut, tut , tut. Didn't warning bells ring when LA bloke said we won't chase up the owner?

To do what you recommend results in an offence against Sect 2 Refuse Disposal(Amenity) Act 1978 of abandoning a vehicle on any land, or land forming part of a Highway without lawful authority.

Even applies to bits of vehicles.

&2,500 fine, 3 months imprisonment or both.

One thing for sure Councils are that strapped for cash that they will not give a free service?

Back to them designs.

I absolutely agree. The fact is that I was recommended to do this by the council and nobody has contacted me regarding the issue since. If they do, I have the persons name etc. who advised me.

It shouldn't happen, it shouldn't be allowed to happen, but it does happen.
