Just got my Origin B2 by courier, excellent looking bit of kit, really small and neat. Anyway I thought that I would be able to fit it just below the ashtray on the central tunnel of my 993, but it is a bit of a tight fit.

My question is where else can I put it, I don't really want to put it on the dash!

Help please it is being fitted on thursday!

They are best put where you can see them as otherwise the info they display (current speed, current limit etc) is wasted. I would be tempted to mount above the central vents on the quick release frame, and hide the wiring behind the dash as well as you can.

I have a similar problem with a Snooper SR6 Neo. It's a good bit of kit and certainly picks up all the GATSOs, but it does take up quite a lot of room. When I bought it, I tried it out on the family car where there was plenty of room on the dashboard, but there's less space on the 993's dash and it seems to fill up what little there is.
There also appears to be a problem with the GPS in picking up satellites: I haven't yet checked with the makers, but suspect that the 993 has the kind of glass that blocks transmissions. Does anyone know the answer to that?
Transferring the GPS receiver to the rear is suggested in the handbook, but my 993 is a Targa and it may have the same problem there!

Can you put it on the passanger side of the centre console, where the mobile phone pre-wiring connection is?

Katim, I doubt you'll get any sat lock through the targa rear window. It is coated IIRC and double thickness when the roof is 'down'.

To increase sat lock, best to fit an external antenna, but these can look a bit ugly etc. You can then run the lead to the unit or get an amplified re-radiating device that broadcasts the signal to internal antennas. Cost about 50 quid.

Thanks Dom. I should have checked before making an expensive impulse buy - story of my life! So far, at least, the 993 doesn't fall into that category (I hope!). I'll have to see what I can do to get around the problem - don't much like the sound of external aerials on that gorgeous shape.

thanks for the replies guys,

domster, I have looked at sticking it to one of the vent itself, but it looks ugly, as does anywhere on the dash. The B2 talks to you so line of sight is not too important.

Going to get JZ to install the LRC jammer and B2 today so will get them to fit it on a bracket in front of the ashtray.

I used it yesterday, and its bloody good. The GPS ariel sits nicely on the rear shelf.

Cool, let me know how you get on. I only have an Origin 1.

I am still trying to work out how to neatly integrate origin, Garmin if I get it etc. and have brilliant satellite reception, as satellite lock has been marginal for me.

Cheers
Dom

Stewart,

Interested to hear that your GPS aerial works on the back shelf of your 993. I must try it on my Targa. Domster reckoned it wouldn't work through the Targa's roof (coated infra-red), but it might work through the rear window at times when the glass roof is up. Worth a try - I was about to dump the system!

Katim - don't dump the system in any case. You can rig up any number of GPS antenna options. How do you think GPS tracked cars keep their antennas hidden from thieves? They have small GPS boxes that can be hidden virtually anywhere - I think these are active not passive antennas tho', so they are more sensitive to the satellite signal and don't need 'line of sight'.

Speak to a GPS specialist company - there are many out there.

Cheers

I have a couple of GPS receivers (iPaq Nav system and Morpheous Geodesy) that work just fine on the dash of my 993, the screen does not block the satellite signals.
