I want to upgrade the ram on my hand built desktop but my usual vendor doesn't stock DDR400 anymore. So I have been looking around for 4GB's worth (2x 2x1gb dual channel) but prices seem through the roof, £78+ is this the norm for old memory or is that just too high? I have an ASUS mobo and It can take that amount. Use to have the full amount till it all slowly died off. Ebay looks tempting but at the same time I am not sure.

Let me check tomorrow am - I'm pretty sure I have 4Gb of this that came out of a dead HP desktop (PSU packed up) which is now surplus to requirements

Have you tried the Crucial.com site? They have a UK section for UK pricing.

Prices on boggo DDR1 have been on the up and up for a while now, they just aren't shifting the volume on it compared to DDR2/3 now.

Same as always, prices plumet, gets scarce then rockets.
Any DDR1 RAM bigger than 512k is worth money, briefly.
DDR2 is worthless, a short while ago it was big money.
Will plumet again soon.

will 4 x DDR1 1GB PC400 modules be what I need? Also will they be a lot slower than dual channel ram?

Do you really need 4GB? What are you running that won't manage comfortably with 2GB in dual-channel?

Photoshop, sometimes it tells me I am running out or have run out and now I am switching to 7 ultimate as well.

Not had any problems myself with Illustator and PS but I guess it's possible if you have a lot of other processes running. One thing to think about are possible future upgrades. Your ASUS mobo and chip must be quite old if you are still running DDR400, will you be considering an upgrade soon (especially if going to Win7 64) making any DDR400 purchase instantly redundant?
