How are these two watches connected albeit by 40 years?

No prizes, just that smug feeling...

Is it that they are both owned by Swatch or something like that?

Swatch own a lot but not Diesel, or indeed what I had in mind.

Link is between these 2 specific models... no other Omega or Diesel that I'm aware of.

Getting there Andy...

Omega Speedmaster Professional 3570.50.00 and Diesel DZ7078 were both supplied by employers to their employees who were destined for the Moon.

We know the Nasa story for the Speedy.

In the 2009 film Moon, the Diesel was the watch issued to the clone employees of Lunar Industries where they spent their whole existence on the surface of the moon.

Which film?
2001, A Space Odyssey

No more moon watches from me, though I do have a Diesel with the same display in negative...

"I can't let you do that Dave" - 2001 of course, too easy...
