Tomorrow, I shall leave home at 06:00hrs, with ear plugs, and drive a 107db car to Manchester, collect and fit an FIA approved Roll Cage and drive it home again...

Having broken the big toe on my left foot on Thursday...

Should I be institutionalised?

I'm with you on that one, especially as I can't drive for another 2 - 3 weeks.

Made it...!!!

Got back about half 12... Cage is in, just some tidying up to do where the welding was... It wasn't quite as bad as I thought it was going to be for my foot, the clutch foot didn't do a lot and the heat coming off the un-insulated tunnel is enough to melt the side of a shoe, so nice and warm for the injured pinkie... The noise was pretty tolerable with plugs in too, but the old girl's so low geared it's painful... 4000rpm is 80mph. Also took the lamp covers off on the way home, came out of Manchester down through Holmes Chapel to the M6, this route is a winding lower class A road and it looked like daylight with nearly 600w lighting it up...

Yep, it was a good day…

Sounds it.

My sister studied in Manchester - those roads almost make the motorway trudge worthwhile.

The rear B hoop, cross bar and mounts to the rear arches are a single piece, which made fitting quite involved with measuring and re-measuring it's final position

The rear part of the cage mounts up onto two 'Brunel Engineering' plates in the inner arches.

The combined A pillar and side roof bar bolts to the B hoop.

Then bolts directly through the floorpan in the front footwells... Today I've added the padding and been tidying the wiring.

The 'B' posts were where the most work was, as the mounting plate supplied could be bolted in, but didn't really inspire too much confidence, so we elected to weld in the plate... I've protected the new welds with seam sealant and will finish off in white when fully dry.

The cage somewhat dominates the interior, the door bars making entry something akin to climbing through a letterbox.

After 560 miles the car is plastered in road grime, I've got some cleaning to do...

Also, as a PS really, the cage really does 'lock together' the shell, it's amazing the tension the cage puts into the shell, the car does 'feel' harder, stronger, almost as if it's got new suspension... It's certainly made a marked difference to the chassis control... smile
