Yes I saw that and was surprised to see it on TV, given the sensitivities.

IIRC it was similar to the one here not comfortable to contemplate frown

As sad as it is, it's probably the best publicity Luge has had in a long time.

I wonder... if they raise the wall, might the athletes push it a bit harder?

Dont click if you dont want to see how it happened.

I dont see how the olympic officials have concluded it was not a unsafe track. Surley if there were not concrete posts next to the track on the exit of a bend it would of been a lot safter

Shocking footage, at least he would have felt nothing from that impact. There should be at least a perspex screen down that side of the luge to cover the posts.

Whoever designed and operated that track wants bloody well locking up. Lethal, with unprotected steel beams and uprights without the most basic of impact protection or safety precautions. There's even a stretcher lying on the walkway next to the track which he appears to bounce off. A completely avoidable tradegy.

Jesus. Back-first into a steel pillar at that speed. No chance.
Echo the sentiments of previous posts, perspex roof on the track at least?

madness, just madness.
it's like the old days of f1 (or current day IoM TT races), if you stay on the track youre fine, if you come off then its game over pal.

Netting maybe? Not having metal posts in what we might think of as 'run off area; ?

There's always a certain amount of soul searching after an event like this.

However, these chaps take part in such sports knowing full well the dangers present. Indeed, it's what makes it exciting for them.

I am always concerned when the "we must make it safer" brigade begin to jump on the bandwagon.
