We have a website, I don't know what I'm doing or even where to start but a friend does.

I need stuff adding, changing etc from time to time. My friend can do it but doesn't know how to charge me.

Any ideas? Per hour?

It all depends on how the website is built and what things are getting added.

I've just had a quick glance at your website and it appears that it's done with static HTML content (e.g. lots of files which are opened directly by your web browser, rather than something generated by a CMS (Content Management System like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla etc)). I'd also assume that your friend has a copy of DreamWeaver and built your site using a couple of free templates he found on the internet?

Making changs to this isn't that hard. All your friend will need to do is open up Dreamweaver, find the bit of text / image that needs replacing, make the change and then upload them to your website (using DreamWeaver). How much money would you charge to make a similar change to someone's Word Document?

To give you an example, I work as a web developer with a small team working for me. I'm modestly successful and have enough experience to be confident in what I'm doing. I charge £25/hr when doing freelance work - no offence to your friend, but they aren't sure what to charge / produced the website using templates etc, then I'd be inclinded to offer him an hourly rate appropriate - maybe £10?

Yes you're right about Dreamweaver, have heard that in conversation before now.

Thanks for the advice!
