Wheel weight

I'm just trying to get some 17" wheels plus tyres couriered, but no-one will give me a price unless I can tell them what the wheels weigh...

Does anyone happen to know what a 17" wheel plus tyre will weigh?

Cant find any info via google but...
Try emailing the wheel/tyre company and asking them the weight. I just came across the BK racing site (an alloy wheel manufacturer) an noticed they have an email address for technical queries.

About 20KG. That is what my 520 wheels+tyre weigh... Also what the griff wheel + tyre weigh so I would imagine that it would be about right. I weighed them using bathroom scales: take your weight with wheel and without. Difference is what you want.

I couldn't believe it when they wanted to know how much the wheels weighed - it's not like they're being transported to Europe or anything. And I did tell them they couldn't use a bike to deliver, they'd have to use a van....

Oh well. Now I've found a helpful courier who'll do Saturdays for no extra charge, doesn't need to know the weight of the wheels and is quite happy to answer calls without me having to hold for 20 minutes while they tell me how damned popular they are so I have to wait because my call is important to them.

If your courier company charge you by the kilo (as most do) why not let the air out and fill them with hellium?

Too late and irrelevant now I know, but one of my old TSW 18" race wheels plus tyre is 20.4 kg - so I think Steve is on the money with 20kg each for a 17".

As an aside I have just got some new magnesium alloy wheels that weigh just 8.4kg each without the tyre!! I still can't get over how light they are. Just think how much quicker I can go into tyre walls now....
