I have a Renault Clio 1.4 (2007, 57 registration) which I want to buy some alloy wheels for. Due to general pennilessness buying new is out of the question so I am looking at secondhand from eBay, local advertisers etc.

Now I know they need to be 4-stud with a PCD of 100mm, and an offset of et38 which seems to be the most common type looking through all the various manufacturers spec; Golf, Mini, MX-5, Micra, Civic, Corsa etc. However the bore seems to vary quite a bit and Renault seem to use quite a large bore at 60.1mm.

So my question is: how much tolerance is there on bore size? And if I buy whhels that are otherwise correct but with the wrong bore, how easy is it to enlarge one that's too small? And is there a tweak to enable wheels with too large a bore to be fitted?

(http://www.nice-wheels.co.uk/wheelfit.html is a good place to look for comparisons.)

Funny you should say that Steve, I'm currently looking at a set from a Megane.

I've also found that you can use things called spigot rings to reduce the bore if it's too large, but have yet to discover whether or not it's possible to enlarge it if it's too small.
