Arse. Washing Machine on the blink....
Discussion
Typical. House on the market and the washing machine goes on the blink.
It is a Smeg (WDI 12C). Smoke came out of it (on spinning, not drying). I've just run it again, and now it seems fine. Just spoke to a helpful engineer who thinks it is the control unit, and the element came on when it wasn't supposed to and it was limescale burning off the element.
Anyone experienced similar? Engineer says new control unit and call out will be about £200.
Replacement (fitted) units seem to be £400+

Dont like to contradict a fellow engineer but he is most likely wrong. The only reason the element would come on would be due to a blocked pressure chamber which would fool the machine into thinking its full of water when it is empty but this would happen in the wash cycle rather than spin.
assuming the smoke is inside the drum then its usualy a failure of either the bearing or the drum support causing the inner drum to rub against the door seal. If the smoke is from the cabinet rather than the drum then it could really be anything electrical going up.
As its an intergrated model, replacement is not going to be cheap or easy, would suggest you do get a Smeg engineer out to it. find one here:
