I nearly always leave my house keys on a designated house key hook...I say nearly, because this afternoon...they're not there. I was just about to leave the house when I discovered they were missing. I'd used them to open the front door a couple of hours earlier (to put the rubbish out) and was certain I'd put them back on the hook. I've searched high and low for them but can't find them anywhere...have even gone through the rubbish in case they accidentally got dropped in.
Normally I'd have a spare, but the builders who I've had in over the last few weeks forgot to return it over a week ago. If I can't find it today then I'll just have to call them and get another lock fitted.
I don't think anyone has taken it, but it has mysteriously dissappeared.

Anyone else lost their house keys and then found them in a daft place later on? ( I'm looking for inspiration here smile )

Whatever you do, look in one more place after you find them. Then when some smug tt comes out with "ahh, they are always in the last place you look" you can tell them that they were in the second last place you looked.

Did you put a jacket or trousers on when you went out to put the rubbish out?

I've already looked in the bin and they're not there. I'll have another look though.
...and I've just checked the fridge.

I'm thinking of ways to barricade myself in this evening, loads of heavy books (in crates) against the front door seems to be my favoured option with a bell type alarm....then use a chair to jam the hall door's handle.

I was wearing clothes, and I did check the pocket, nothing there. I'd actually changed clothes to go out ( I'm not a supermarket pyjama wearer biggrin ).

Panic over, I've just found them on a hook in the utility/airing cupboard.
Why on earth I put them in there, I just don't know!
I can only guess that when I was returning the vacumn cleaner to the cupboard, I must have left the cupboard door open and without thinking hung the keys up in there instead of their normal hook.
That's nearly 4 hours wasted, oh well - tis sorted now. smile

The freezer is my personal favourite place to leave stuff. That or the cutlery drawer.

Last month, when it snowed heavily, I left the office at 4pm and dropped a colleague off at her house 8 miles away. Got to hers at 6.30pm. I got to my house 3 miles from there at 7.30pm and discovered that I'd lost my door keys (I've always had them separate from my car keys).

Just then I got a call from a colleague about something and he offered to let me stay in his spare room, so I drove back the way I came and finally got out of my car at 9.30pm, once he'd made it through the traffic home.

Found the fking keys in a rucksack stuffed underneath the drinks cabinet earlier this week.
