I have the opportunity to buy a 51 plate Mondeo TDDi. I have never heard of the TDDi engine before and wanted to know anyones opinion and experience regarding the reliability and fuel consumption of these engines.

I basically need really good economy ( and reliability) driving to work which is 40 miles each way on mostly fast A & B roads.........

I had been looking at TDCi engined cars but this TDDi seems a good price and is lower mileage than others i have seen.

Any thoughts / advice / opinion is gratefully received.

if it's a TDdi it must be quite an early Mk3. The TDdi was replaced by the 115bhp TDCi. A lot of people say the TDdi is more reliable than the TDCi as it supposedly doesn't suffer from the injector problems the TDCi is supposed to have. My TDCi has done 155k now and had none of the supposed common problems besides the clutch and Dual Mass Flywheel being replaced for the first time last September. But, at that mileage and considering I tow a caravan too I'm happy to put that down to normal wear and tear.

If it's a good 'un then there's now't wrong with the TDdi and you can expect 50mpg. That's what I get from mine consistantly.
