M5 E39 1999 Vanos system
Discussion
Thanks Neil, realise that now, was looking at M5board earlier at some threads suggesting that if you suffer from noisey idle or start up noise then cut the gauze away from the solinoids if it has'nt already fallen away while your in the process of replacing the orings.
Don't think I have any of those problems but was talking to a friend who has a Rs4 and he was saying that when changing the oil and filter (just about to do)then would change the screen thats inline for the vanos and solinoids.
is the reason for asking....
Still to add some pics when i get round to it if I can find a day when the sun is shining and the car is not covered in salt and sh..t.
Do you know if the car controllers can be reset by unplugging them or diconnecting the battery as I have an issue with the tyre pressure control so far as I tried recal about 10 times but can not get it to set correctly. last guy to own the car said the tyre had burst but never reset it after the new tyre was fitted. all I seem to get is some German text pop up on the dash then it reverts to tyre pressure warning on dash cleared by pressing the reset button.
thanks for your reply

Hi Steve.
If you are going to remove the solanoid boards then you may as well change all the O rings (8 per bank) and the cover gasket. Mine started leaking on one side and although fiddly a very worth while project.
Yes there is talk about taking out the gauzes - if some have come away then who knows where they are. I just left mine where they were.

Just did an filter/oil change, how easy is that, must be the easiest car I have ever come across, no mess....and a clean bill of health
reason I mension this is when inspecting the used filter contents there is absolutly no bits/debri of any kind also when you inspect the dregs of the used oil there is nothing to be found, no gauze and better still no white metal, as I once found on a tvr 1st oil change since purchasing car as you can guess cost me a new engine
Has given me a bit of confidence as your not sure what your getting when you buy second hand.
Plus keeps the mrs of your back as she does like to moan when her car has to spend down time sitting on the drive waiting for bits
Happy days
Cheers mate
