Anyone lost an exhaust?
Discussion
You, with the pre 2001 Renault Clio, now relieved of its huge, needlessly noisy, barry boy special exhaust. I'd like to inform you that I have it in my possesion. Turns out the live lane of the M9 wasn't the best place to leave it, however you'll be happy to hear that my new 1 day old pride and joy, a Ford Puma dragged it safely onto the hard shoulder with it embedded in its crankcase and tucked safely under my (now) bent front chassis cross beam.
About 5 minutes Prior, as you are aware you passed me at 90mph+ with your Halfords special looking decidedly wonky, not that I thought particuarly much about it as it just appeared as another badly fitted fart can.
I realise stopping dead on a motorway is not the done thing, and by no means am I suggesting you should have done so, or tried to retreive your fart can, however, had you even stopped on the hard shoulder with your hazards on when you felt the thud of your exhaust drop off, saw the shower of sparks, or the obvious drop in power and increase of bad noise, this would have been more than enough to warn drivers travelling at 70mph, had you stopped your lights would have easily given the additional light needed to illuminate the exhaust on the quiet motorway. Not only did you do none of this, but never even thought to report it.
Now, it looks likely as if my Puma will be written off, hopefully followed by a decent insurance payout, however the chances of finding another one as good as I had on my student budget are slim to none. Not to mension having to put out my £550 excess, which without the third party's details I can't claim back. Add to this the 2 hours I spent waiting on recovery, the £180 that cost and the waste of Police time, who Im sure are also questioning how unroadworthy the rest of your car is, why you didnt stop and your excess speed.
So, if you want your exhaust back, Im more than happy to meet up with you
...Or perhaps the collective of Scottish Ph'ers have seen this green renault clio with a wonky double exit exhaust? or may perhaps see a green clio with no exhaust... either way if you could keep your eye open or share any details if you have seen the car before it would certainly make things run alot smoother in my world.
Thanks, and sorry for immedietly jumping into this section of PH without an introduction but as you can tell Im rather gutted about my car and am focusing on trying to get things smoothed out over the situation.

According to the police the nearest cameras are the ones at Kincardine bridge which only take the reg plate, there are also ANPR cameras further along the road, which also only take the plate. So according to the police the clio is untraceable.
I cant remember where the report said we where exactly, but we where heading westbound, approx. 12 minutes from cumbernauld - where I was headed, If you know the area it was right next to the Asda Depo
Cheers,

Out of curiosity, how would this be looked on by the insurance if you did trace the driver?
Does a bit of your car falling off make you fully responsible? If a big lump of rubber came off a lorry tyre (like you often see on hard shoulder) would this make lorry driver responsible for any subsequent damage to other vehicles?
And how would you prove it came from his car?
I don't know the answer but I could see an ins co trying to wriggle out of it for sure!
