Extra noise with roll bar fitted ?
Discussion
Hello, Just taken delivery of a 98 Griff and asked the dealer to fit a roll bar. When I drove the car (pre roll bar ) I was not particularly aware of any unusual noises. With the bar fitted I can hear a fairly loud additional noise best described as a dry rubbing sound. Haven’t really had time to explore things yet but on other cars I have noticed covers fitted over the base of the vertical bars. These seem to be missing on mine and I wonder if this is where the noise is entering the cabin. I have driven other Griffs with roll bars fitted but only with the roof down. Another oddity is that the fixing points for a four point harness seem offset towards the centre of the car rather than behind the seats. Any comments / experience ?
I noticed quite a significant amount of noise conducted into the cabin via the bar - soon got used to it though. Also spent quite a long time working with Tower View to get the harness lined up as much as possible (it is constrained by the position of the rear stays but you can cheat a little by putting the bobbins in the side of the bar rather than the front) and position the bar as far up and back as possible.
Tower view one is here who are supplied from rollcentre( Martin Short etc).
Its a little different to the Tvr made one and I think not as wide and is fixed to the chassis at different places.
TVR one to the seatbelt mount and rear chassis.
TView one to the chassis below the parcelshelf and rear chassis.
