My worcester combi boiler has stopped firing up when the hot taps are turned on. Repair man says it needs a new diverter valve and total cost to replace will be > £200. Seeing as said valves are circa £60 - £80 inc. vat this seems a bit steep. Is the job a big one, or is the standard rate for this kind of job in the home counties. ?

depending on the model the diverter valve can be a bh to get at,on the plus side the valve probably only needs a £25 diaphram (sp) kit.

Thanks. It's a worcester bosch 230 from 96/97 and he said the diaphragm repair kit wouldn't work, so needs a whole new valve.

To be honest it dosent sound too over the top. I wouldn't replace the diaphragm ether as the risk of callback is too great.

Mt FIL had this job done by a Worcester service engineer - I forget the exact amounts but was something like £210 to replace the valve or £250 for a year's service contract.

So he opted for the service contract only for the engineer to turn and do the job, but then refuse to authorise the contract as the boiler was in a boiler cupboard accessed from outside. So he paid the lower price.

Thanks for all the info above. Well I bought a diverter valve online, having been told that it would more than likely need replacing, but it turns out it was the diaphragm only that needed replacing, so I now have a worcester borsch 230 diverter valve for sale. If there are any ph'ers interested pm me.

Maybe worth looking at British gas, thet repaired our boilder for a fixed fee of £155 IIRC, that was a couple of years ago now but the parts alone were over £200!!
