Been working long hours recently and thought I might treat myself by replacing my daily beater Seiko Monster.

Budget is around £1500.

Would like something of similar size to the Monster and must have the date (preferably with Day too).

Don't really want anything too fussy so several chronograph functions not really required.

Would consider pre-owned (although don't have the necessary number of posts for TZ).

Any suggestions very welcome.

Sinn U1 or U1 SDR on bracelet springs to mind.

Certainly "not fussy" and about the size your looking for. Will leave you a few quid spare too.

mid-size seamaster biggrin you'd get one brand new with that money,

Or how about a second hand IWC, not sure you would get one for £1500 though they seem to be a little more.

Mate of mine has just treated himself with his bonus to a 41mm Seamaster Pro Co-Axial with the black dial/black bezel/steel bracelet combo (212.30.41.20.01.002) from Watch-finders. Cost him a smidgen over your budget.

Hmmmm, some good suggestions there thanks.

The U1SDR was one I was looking at earlier this morning - certainly looks tough enough to pension off the Monster!

The Seiko is the first watch I've had with both Day and Date feature which I quite like. I definitely miss the date when wearing my Speedy Pro, just wonder whether lack of the day would bug me now I'm used to it. Trouble is it does rule out some very nice watches if I want both scratchchin

What are Damasko like, one caught my eye on another thread?

For Monster like proportions and a tough daily wearer I'd go with a U1 S/SDR or plain as well.

Oops, that's what I meant. 42mm is the small one right?

Yep smile A good way to distinguish between them is the 42mm has the sharper bezel edge, whereas the 45.5mm variant has the wavey bezel edge.

Err? scratchchin £1,500 is more than enough to get some decent metal on your wrist! Sinn, Fortis, Ball and Oris to name but a few!

OP, have a look through Jurawatches.co.uk and Precisiontime.co.uk to see a wide range of watches and perhaps find a few potential purchases! smile

Had a good browse through both Jura, Timefactors and Chronomaster last night - few that could be an option.

What are Damasko like? Are they suitable for a daily wearer - read one review that seemed to pour doubt on the strength of the case hardening?
Liked the look of the DA36, but sadly discontinued.

Damasko are held in high regards, but I believe the majority of models have a 1-2 year waiting list! Second hand value is also fairly high due to the demand, but this would be the quickest method of obtaining a Damasko smile I haven't heard about the case hardening issue, so cannot comment!

Damasko are brilliant - certainly well up to daily wear. Don't have any doubts about the case hardening - it's very effective.

They are hard to get hold of - buying used by far the best option via TZ-UK etc. DA36 & 37 both discontinued.
