OK, this is actually about a Mini but I thought this section would give me the fastest and clearest response. Basically my Girlfriend has a 2008 Mini Cooper S, bought new with a full TLC package.

Basically she wants confirmation (even though im 99.99% sure banghead) that by changing her brake pads, this will not void the warranty on the car. People have told her this will void the warranty and shes thinking of going back to the main Stealership to change her pads drunk

P.S. I posted here as I assume its pretty much a BMW warranty in any case.

Any responses would be very much appreciated smile

2008? has it done loads of miles, or is she just hard on the brakes?

MINI might have fixed price pad changes - many makes do, so they might not be that expensive (although she'll probably get a call once they got the car and say "it could with having the disks changed too").

12k miles, but surely if its covered by warranty, then the discs or what ever else they find/look for will also be covered and replaced free of charge.

A DIY pad change would void the warranty then? I thought an upgrade had to directly contribute to the failure of the car to void the warranty?

Pads are not a service item, just do them yourself with BMW pads.

Pads and discs are consumeable items and not covered by warranty unless they're faulty.

12K is *very* short life though - who says they need replacing?

Where does "upgrade" come from - are you thinking of fitting uprated pads?

This is exactly the sort of response I thought I would get, I thought Brakes pads wouldnt be covered...I mean whos to say u aint tracking it every week?

The breaks have become noisey as of late and definatley sound like their wearing down. Aftermarket pads naybe an option for her as apparantley the OEM Mini Pads are BarStewards for brake dust, when I mentioned "upgrade" though, I was thinking more theoretically e.g. fitting a larger turbo, or remapping which in turn could blow/damage the engine, hence voiding the warranty.
