Has anyone got any picture of Early Grantura (Mk 1 and 2 I think) or the same rear end Griff 200's?

I have a standard shape alloy tank (not sure what size think maybe 12 gallons). But does any one with and Fia Grantura (not 400 shape) have pictures of how the std one can be modified or a new one made so it can actually be gotten in to the car. The problem is the tiny rear window lip stops it easily being just made taller and gotten in the car. Grannies that do long races must know how to do this even though they have better mpg, they will still want maybe 2x what I have now (mine will be doing low mpg's when racing - so want enough tankage to easily do and hour+), twice the standard size I recon.

Any pic's / solutions?

?I'll make a picture of my original Grantura fueltank tonight! As you start form scratch? , what about getting the tank in and out at the underside of the car?. In my grantura it was a p in the a to get it in and out. I have a sketch for a 95l bag which was eventualy made by Conti.

this was my design suplied to Conti and they could make a fuelblader with it (so dont say its bad!!) I made an aly box for it which has flares to the sides were the rivets go (so the gross dimensions make it 2cms bigger.) . I think I would weld now if I had to make a new one. The blader was round 1400e in 2005. I must have a pic but so far didnt find it, we were in a hurry to build the car for the six hours in 2005.....not much time for making pics.

Ha there.

That look smaller that the one I have (the one I have I'd guess at 10 - 12 gall max). Can't see how something that looks that small could ever do and hour, let alone 40mins at full chat (might be ok for the road). Rich E says he has a Grantura long range tank which I can look at on friday, but I think this is only about 80litres. No idea what the fuel consumption of my lump will be but I'm sure it will be more than a top fia 289.

Pic's of a bigger tank than below anyone.

Esper - Body all done - picked up yesterday wink

if you make a tank in the patern in the pic I posted before you will get 93 litres if you make it in ally and it will fit through the rear window as you have the cage made like the green car. as 302 using 1,5 liters the minute,??????? thats quite something!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to have to play about with the tank I have and see what shape can fit in through the back window.

I presume you have to pit in through here, and roll into the space rather than slide and roll in between the rear wheel wells. Mine has widened inner rear wheels wells (which is not going to help!).

I can maybe mock up with cardboard shapes ontop of the existing tank that we might be able to wiggle in.

I'm going to fill my existing tank with water next week to see how big it is.

I'd like to aim for 100+ if possible - handy when touring around europe!!

Not sure what a full house V8 will do yet?

  • Another point - know anyone that wants a set of new Fia spec 2 pot Girling Jag brakes (from Cambridge Motorsport) and pad. No use to me.

Hey,

just found your discussion about fuel-tanks via google.

I am currently restoring a Grantura mk2a and will definitly have to fit a bigger fuel-tank as I am going to drive long-distance-rallies.

Does anyone have a bigger fuel-tank for sale that would fit into my car?

Chris I have an unused large capacity Ali tank which I would be prepared to sell. It fits my round tail MkIII. PM me if interested. R

Jon, cut up some cardboard boxes and make a mock-up, that's what I will do when the time comes, that way you can tailor it exactly to the space available. You can then work out the fluid capacity from the volume once you have a design roughed up.

Standard Grantura Mk3 fuel tank is "U" shaped and has spare wheel in recess. The factory endurance racers (Sebring and Le Mans) had the space where the spare wheel sits incorporated in the fuel tank 26"x18"x7" approx increasing capacity by about 5 or 6 gallons and were also slightly taller.

when working out how much fuel you want for a race, look at the time sheet and it tells what the average speed is as well as your time. so if your average speed is 74.8 mph then thats how far you are going to get in a 1 hour race. divide that by your average fuel consumption and you will arrive at the capacity you require. remember the weight issue is important. best of luck and best regards kt

How long are the stages? I get 300+ miles out of a standard tank full!

When you,ve driven a torsion bar car for 300 miles you will be glad to get out and fill it up.

Stages? on my favorite rally there is only one stage and that is about 2500km biggrin

Had a run in a torsion-bar Grantura today, it´s much more comfortable than my mini was and is nearly as comfortable as my dad´s S.
