I've just picked up the latest copy of '911 & Porsche world' and found that once again running reports is missing. I then read in the editors column that they have decided to drop this section as it has 'run its course'.
Now I don't know about everybody else but this was one of my favourite bits in the mag and I'm sorry to see it go. I always found it interesting to hear about real world stories of running a Porsche, from the most humble 924 to full blown GT3 race replicas. Now to make matters worse thay have a huge article in this months magazine about Porsche tractors!!
Is it just me or are they losing the plot

Andy, you are right, this was a really good part of the editorial. Mainly beceause we read about everyday people, running everyday cars.

Not just rare exotics (which is also interesting)but ordinary stuff and what we potentially leave ourselves open to, with older Porsche ownership.

So, who is going to write or email them then?

Yes, and the rest of it was all about off roading in that 4x4 thing. PANTS !

Yep, first KN's, then tractors, now no more running reports, they have _definitely_ lost the plot - if I wanted to buy Farmer and Tractor World I'd bloody well do so, now back to 911 and Porsche sportscars please!

edited to say: and it's so flippin' annoying because in every other way 911&PW is _the_ magazine to buy, I'd hate to see them lose the plot and turn into (say) another GT...

I agree. I have been going off that magazine for a while now.

I'm not wild about the editor to be honest. Some of the articles are a bit pointless, and some are plain daft ( there is one article showing how to dismantle a 3 piece split rim wheel, clean it and put it back together again without even using correctly torqued and replacement bolts - stupid or what ! ) .

The editor also said some pretty idiotic things about the Carrera GT. This is one of the most important cars in recent years for Porsche. Some people are slagging them off for the Cayenne, and here they are with a carbon-tubbed, cutting edge sports car with new technologies. The Carrera GT is a sign of Porsches to come.

The best thing the editor of that stupid magazine could say was that it " costs 3 times more than a GT3 but is'nt 3 times as much fun " Which rather misses the point.

Yes, I agree with the comments here. I used to look forward to reading running reports too. One of the 'true enthusiasts' features. In other words for people that save long and hard for their beloved Porkers, not the shiny shoe brigade that are 'given' a company Cayanne to motor around in. As for the tractors, well if their rationale is 'it's a Porsche because Porsche created it', I can't wait fot the Tiger Tank versus the Leopard Panzer' showdown issue. You can see the direction the mag is going in, just note the increase in advertisers over, say the last 18 months. They're going mass market..., just like Porsche. Which leaves little room for the 'important things in life', Was I alone in taking one look at the big red tractor and simply ignoring the article.

I agree that the running reports should be re-instated. It`s particularly interesting to hear from everyone in the porsche spectrum from 924 to GT3 - I`d quite like see a few classics as well.

However whinging about the tractor thing is a bit reactionary to me. They actually have quite a lot of editorial in the mag` and they have a remit across the whole porsche spectrum. Tractors aren`t my thing but I can see why they might (occasionally) be in the magazine.

I would like to see far less cayenne coverage though but that nothing other than blind prejudice!

Would like to see a Tiger road test though!

OK, so I was being deliberately provocative with the Famer's weekly comment, it's actually refreshing to read about something a little different every now and then. The continuing profusion of KN articles and the 'KN better than sliced bread' attitude _is_ galling. If I wanted to read 4x4 monthly I'd bl**dy well buy it!

You see: I love porkers, but older porkers. The new/almost new market is sewn up by the mass-market rags, and mags like GT and Evo. The niche that 911&PW has so well served in the past (and visa versa) has been the older porker sportscar stuff. I say sportscar because I want to include 944/928/356 et al. not just 911. People get all emotional/passionate/obsessive/whatever over sportscars, they just don't get all emotional over 4x4s...

Where else would you get an article on how to upgrade from flag to teardrop mirrors? Or the real-life running report experiences of your average joe?

So 911&PW, take a lesson from the popularity of Reality TV and keep the mag for real-world Porsche Sportscar afficionados like you've always served in the past, or I might just have to start up my own magazine: "Fox's 911&Porsche Sportscar World"

Picked up a copy of GT pure pap today & gotta say is a pretty decent read so far, which in truth ive not been able to say about any of their previous issues that are more like advertising catalogues that have fab photography but woeful content.

In fact I feel its a siginificantly better mag than this months 911 & P/W, which ive never been able to say about any GT issue as they dont normally even come in the same catagory let alone get close.

I've read 911 & P/W for many years (am I the only one to have picked up on the fact they have finally gone down the spine bound route at last)& have a daft amount of em stacked up, but do admit this last issue was pretty poor, however I have been impressed with the issues in general lately.

Obiously tho I must add that none of the current issues holds a candle to slightly earlier ones when I've written for 'em, as those are surely prized collectors editions by now
