I personally favour IBM/Hitachi.

Disk choice seems to be relatively personal though most people seem to avoid Maxtor.

I quite like Seagate as they have the best warranty and are generally reliable.

I tend to avoid Hitachi as I have personally had a lot of them fail.
Never tried Maxtor.
I like Seagate but have had the odd failure.

My personal fave (not on your list though) is Western Digital; I've used loads over the years and can't recall a single one failing.

+1 although I'm now using one of their 'green' drives and find its a touch noisier than the nornal ones.

From the web site
Supported hard disk drives
Manufacturer Model Capacity Comments
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40GB 6E040L0
Maxtor Fireball 3 40GB 2F040L0
IBM DeskStar 60GXP 40GB IC35L040AVER07
IBM DeskStar 120GXP 40GB IC35L040AVVN07-0
Seagate Barracuda 5400.1 40GB ST340015A
Samsung SpinPoint V 40GB SV0412H
Samsung SpinPoint V60 60GB SV0602H
Hitachi DestStar 180GXP 60GB IC35L060AVV207-0

Note: A maximum of 40 GB disk space will be utilized, even if the disks are larger than 40 GB.

This seems to be my task, to find one of these

I'd say your best bet is to look on eBay and places like the avforums classifieds
