Basically I have managed to get off a rather 70's looking fake wood finish that someone many years ago in their wisdom thought would look good stuck to the window sill. However the adhesive used has made a right mess of the original nice wood window sill underneath.

Anybody recommend how to recover it back to its original glory or am I best to find maybe a white plastic window sill cover (if they do them) and stick this on top ?

Is the left on residule hard or soft, if it's hard then would suggest power tools, if it's on the sorftish side then mechanical brute force i.e. scrappers, emery cloths etc.

Or can you not try to find some large plastic angle and just stick it on a trim to size?

I'd go the scraper route. The wood is still perfectly good underneath, you just have to get the crud off.

The adhesive is hard, and I plan to paint the sill White (Gloss).

Will try and give it a go with a scrapper, maybe see if I can warm the glue up slightly with a blue torch. Just didn`t want to burn the wood which is easy to do.

Oh right, I thought you wanted to retain the original wood surface. If you're painting over it, it doesn't really matter what you do. Orbital sander?
