Fuji road bikes - what are they like

I'm shortly going to be buying my first road bike in about 12 years and am totally out of it with regards whats good/bad. Looking around the £800 mark I've seen the Fuji Roubaix 2.0 but not really come across Fuji before. What are they like?

I'm also looking at the Secialized Allez Elite and Scott Speedster S30CD18, all of which look pretty much the same with Tiagra etc - obviously a few bits different with certain components.

The Fuji is £25 cheaper than the others as well....

first up tiagra is a good groupset, some snobs wont touch anything lower than 105 but both sora and tiagra is functional and reliable. end of.

for the money i would go for the boardman team http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/road_team.html and upgrade the wheels after a bit. its such a good bike, magazines race about it and as an owner of an 08 bike, i can heartly recommend one. all the usual guff about halfords applies, buy it boxed, build it yourself over an evening and you will fall in love with it. the frames as stiff and you only really notice any flex in the rear stays if you really, really apply some pressure on the cranks. mine stays nice and stiff even close to 30 mph. sram rival on a sub <£1K bike is a treat too, and as i said, the only weak point are the wheels but some fulcrum 5/7s in a year or so would be more than ideal.

there are loads around, pinnacle, genesis, GT are all worthy alternatives, anything around that price should be a mix of sora/tiagra, ally frames and carbon forks. its mostly going to be about fit and comfortable you can make yourself on the bike...

sorry, forgot to answer the question! Fuji are sound bikes, like the rest they have a bike at almost every regular price break point. havent heard many grumbles agaisnt them but only ridden a few of the top end models but they felt very good. well proportioned and definately notced their track heritage.

Thanks for the advice, the Boardman looks good but I have to buy through Evans who run my companies C2W scheme.
Kind of liking the looks of the Scott Speedster I mentioned over the Fuji but thats purely aesthetical. Other bike is a Trek 1.5 compact.

Fuji are generally better V4M that the big boys, I guess they don't have to make back the marketing budget to from the bikes!

As with all these things, you'll know once you go for a test ride.

I bought a Fuji Roubaix when on holiday in Austria in 2008. I hadn't heard of them before but as it was half price at 500 Euros and came with full 105 kit and a carbon fork and seat stays I thought I'd take a gamble.

Glad I did as it's fast and light, the only drawback was the cheap wheels which I upgraded to Mavic Aksiums. I've never had any issues with comfort either as the frame seems well proportioned. I heartily recommend it.

Thanks guys. I actually put a deposit down today on a Specialized Allez Elite instead. £25 more expensive but with a full Tiagra groupset rather than a bit of mix and match and much better wheels. Heres to getting fit again....
