I know it's short notice and on a week day but I'm doing a shoot on Friday (19th February) with a model in the City and wondered if anyone wanted to tag along as an assistant.

The shoot is an 1980s style shoot, I have outfits and props (Motorola brick phone, etc) and am working with Charnie who I've worked with before...

We are shooting guerilla style in the street with no pre-booked locations and will be starting at London Bridge. I need someone to carry gear and hold an off camera flash (strobe not a big one). This is NOT an opportunity to bring your own camera and get your own shots but it is an opportunity to see how a shoot works with a model, question my thought process and have some fun. I can't offer any cash but I thought it may interest someone to someone to get some experience.

Those that can't make Friday, I'm sure there will be other opportunities. I work in the City now and when the evenings open up I'm planning some shoots straight after work smile In fact I'll be shooing Malwina ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/grantgb/sets/72157621... ) in the City w/c 8th March sometime.

What time you starting/finish? Will need to make sure the mrs has the little 'uns (ie check with the boss wink ) but would be up for it as not working Friday.

Work in London so can be flexible on future work too.

Echo others in appreciating the offer thumbup

I've got to sort out times in the morning (it's all a bit last minute!) But I expect to shoot maybe 11am to 3pm.

Drop me your number and I'll give you a shout tomorrow smile

I wasn't about volunteer, but another one who thinks 'the City' automatically equates to London.

As a proper noun then of course it is in London.

Good luck with the shoot. I hope you have an eighties style umbrella handy as we are forecast rain/snow showers here in London tomorrow.

It is of course an abbreviation for 'The City of London' and is rather more specific than just London, being just a tiny part of it. It has it's own police force and mayor. This is why the phrase 'The City' is understood to mean that particular geographical lump of history. The City, not a city - providing a distinction between London and that particular bit of it. Have a wiki link : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_City_of_London The irony of course is that 'The City' is tiny compared to an actual city, but it is a name, not a description or classification.

Consequently, the term is not generally considered to refer to somewhere such as Birmingham (or elsewhere in the world) unless qualified or used in a context, such as someone in the suburbs referring to the built up bit rolleyes

yes

Taking Nick's thread and kind offer seriously off topic but can anyone tell me how many cities there are within Greater London?
