taken in Afghanistan by a Uk soldier. Seems to be a lot of facial hair there, can't be the catering section I'd say ! Any experts who can pin down the unit? That guy second in from right front looks like a surfer hippie dude crossed with a bear biggrin

The only Brit in that pic is third from top left in the light camo with the SA80 - all the others are US I think. They look like US Rangers to me which their 203's tends to agree with.

Our SF don't use SA80s though. In answer to the OP - no idea.

Our guy as mentioned seems to be wearing a more desert based outfit whilst the others are more jungle which is weird? Canadian? That guy back right, another version of camouflage.

Apart from the British soldier and the US soldier (far right, digital camo), most of the soldiers seem to be wearing old US Army fatigues which the Afghan National Army now use. The irregular camo coupled with the use of M4s, M203s and bayonets and the excessive facial hair lead me to believe that this might not be your regular cooking infantry unit.

Couldn't say if they're British or American, although our SF usually wear black cardboard rectangles over their eyes. tongue out

I know they don't, that's why I didn't say he was SF. . . . . . wink

He is however a British soldier as only the Brits and Jamaicans use the SA80 and just doesn't strike me as Jamaican for some reason. scratchchin

Having met a few US Rangers whilst serving I'm pretty sure that's what these are. The local Afghan camo and the beards are commonly used by the USR's to fit into the local scenary better.

There's some big mad scary looking mofo's there, i've yet to see a ginger Iraqi/Afghan, loving the biker with the shades, very far from an expert but i'd say that's Afghanistan, US mostly, single Brit and Afghan interpreter

They appear to be from the "Don't f**k with us" team.

They are american (a few of them have stars and stripes on their kit) apart from that not a clue, could be pretty much any frontline combat unit.

The question im asking myself is why do they have their bayonets fitted.

I don't think they are Rangers. Most rangers I have seen wear multi-cam. They are American (note the flag patch). Don't see any rank or unit patches. Facial hair suggests special ops, but gut feeling is telling me CIA ops or contractors. I'm going with CIA operations types or Delta. Contractors in Afghanistan usually wear a desert pattern of sorts.

Edited to add: Scratch Delta - faces are showing.

Pretty cool pic.

Can't help but I get the feeling they're so 'ard, they use sandpaper instead of toilet tissue and probably have no idea what a man-bag or man-flu is. smile

There's actually a few red-haired, fairly light-skinned Iraqis and Arabs (they're EVERYWHERE)!

Not sure about experts though - they've only got Holographic and ACOG sights, and don't have fall camo yet. Maybe they've prestiged recently? biggrin

Yeah, and most Rangers I've met shave! hehe

They could be US Fifth Group SF or Task Force 5 but not with faces showing. SF just don't like face pictures, Rangers on the other hand love face pictures! smile

Am I the only one to note that at least three of that lot are, in fact, werewolves?

Full-silver jacket in 7.62mm, garlic grenades, one of those Camel water carriers full of Perrier blessed by the Pope himself, and a very large bag of Schmakos for treats - and that's required equipment for the friendlies.

Re facial hair.
I thought it was fairly common in Afghanistan, I saw a programme about the Guards over there and everyone seemed to be sporting a beard.

It must be itchy as f*ck. Mind you, I suppose it makes you fit in a little better with the locals. Unless you're ginger.
