Im have accepted an offer for my M3 which is for sale on here for asking price, and am thinking about buying an M5 touring to replace it... Is this a mistake. I feel like crying when i think about saying goodbye to the M3...
Is this a mistake, will the M5 depreciate terribly in comparison?

What was your motivation for selling the M3 in the first place?

a vague need for 4 doors due to a new baby, and a slight inkling for a change...

Could possibly be a retrograde step or perfect depending on you! I`m personally a big fan of ludicrously fast estates. Your car looks lovely, a bit jealous!

The M5 will hold it's value better, as nice as the M3 is, there is a million of them and it will be a £20k car before you blink!

Hey mate got the swapsie bug again?

One word of caution the new m5 is not too far away. Pics on mpost.

The estate is an awaome wagon and I think you will be impressed. Also it's a lot rarer than m3 or m5 saloon.

Are you selling your car with the mods on or are you willing to split?
Pm me

The M5 Touring is awesome - the ony & last normally aspirated 10 cylinder estate car from BMW. Just imagine how people would have clamoured for an E39 M5 Touring, and preferred to the old RS6 (C5) or even the highly clinical new RS6 (C6.. People always think fodnly of the E34 Touring (LHD only).

There are people who adore the RS4 Avant for it is the last normally aspirated V8 from Audi. Is that an alternative?

And yet the rare E46's like the CSL & CS are fetching good prices, and nearly the same as later E60 M5 saloons.

The E92 M3 is a little rare, but think of the time it was launched - more coming through the supply chain. It is a nice car though. An E9X M3 touring is the car BMW should have introduced.

The M5 Touring is rare, and there will always be the true aficianado who will want one IMO. It's an epic car, but alas with an epic thirst so beware. They are not easy to sell right now so you can negotiate hard on the purchase, so mitigating any depreciation

Are you happy with SMG? That has always put me off M5/M6.

The M5 Routing will hold it's value better then the E92 M3. It's already had a chunk off it.

It's fairly standard for a new car to drop 40-45% of it's value after 36months. The only issue with the M5 is that when the new M5 comes out it'll drop prices further for a bit and then it should settle.

The latest RS6 Touring (C6), I understand, is less in demand than the Saloon. It was the other way round with the C5- the earlier model circa 2002-2004. A different time.

So if BMW do not make a Touring in the new M5...., and instead make a touring in the M3 instead for they have the X3,X5,X6M etc etc.

The new M5 is a long way off yet, and the V10 will always be a very desirable motor, I cant see it dropping below £20k for a decent model for a long time to come smile

well it's got a couple of extra cylinders, 800 more cc, 87 more ps, and probably 150+kgs more weight.

Think 12mpg in London traffic and you ought to be fine, the fuel tank is rather small so range is circa 200 miles AFAIK.

I have not owned the E60 M5, so stand to be corrected by those who have.

Ouch, does the 7th gear help on the motorway? as my M3 only has 6 gears so does about 25-30 max on the motorway.

Don't. Coupe exhausts differ slightly (longer) to the saloon meaning a but of cutting is needed for a good fit?
