Hi Folks;

I'm doing a OU degree and trying to submit some of my work via their website (this is a course requirement) and it keeps returning the following message:-

Internal Server Error

Your request cannot be completed because it would exceed your disk space quota. Please delete some files and try again. [1093]

My course tutor says there are no problems for anyone else and that it must be me.

I have logged off (several times), cleared my cache etc - makes no difference!

I tried clearing out my OU Inbox in case that makes a difference and I'm prohibited from doing so.

I'm getting a bit anxious now as this could mean a failure of this part of the course if I don't resolve the issue.

Any ideas on what else I can do?

All help much appreciated.

Surely the OU have some tech support facility?

Indeed they do Ted but since my tutor said it must be a prob my end I thought I would just ask here if there is anything else that I simply am overlooking.

I'll also need to call whilst at work and won't be in front of my PC to fix any issues frown

Well let's face it, your tutor is unlikely to understand the internal machinations of the server configuration... smile

Please tell me you aren't doing a course in IT.

It says "Internal" - this means local to wherever it is. "Server" - this is where the problem is, on the "server" i.e. at their end. "Error" - ok it's going wrong.

Not the most helpful of messages but unequivocal. It is going wrong at the Server end - not at yours.

"Your disk space quota would be exceeded".

OK. Disk space quota. You certainly don't have a disk space quota on your own PC. It's yours and you are entitled to all of it. Nope. The only place there might be a quota (share of) allocated is on the "Server" - their end, once again.

There are two possibilities here:

(1) The disk space quota for the web server account is being exceeded
(2) You have authenticated with the web server and the disk space quota for YOUR account on THEIR server is being exceeded.

If (1) call tech support and ask what they are going to do about it.
If (2) look on your disk space on THEIR server and clear out some of the crap you have left there OR call up tech support and ask why you don't have enough space.

This is probably not "just you" as your tutor suggests. I just hope (s)he doesn't work in IT.

Everything that Don said is right.

The only other thing to mention is, the size of the file(s) that you are attempting to upload may be larger than the quota itself. Are you allowed to zip them before upload at all?

Exactly, I agree, I'm not disputing that and that was my point in telling the OU tutor.

The error message is returned from THEIR web server.

I have just 10 messages in my OU inbox none of which are able to be deleted but I can mark them as "read" which I have and that makes no difference.

The response from the tutor was unequivocally that it is an error my end so the point of my post is really just to confirm what I already know, that the tutor does not know what they are talking about smile

This is before uploading, when I click "new message" but I see your point on file size limitations.

Thanks.

This is a good point. Have you checked the file you want to upload isn't unnaturally massive? This can happen with some of the dreadful bloatware you see these days. I remember my bro emailing me a six Gb file. (We did do this deliberately) and to get it to work we had to switch off all sorts of checking in his mail server and in mine - and we only could because we both run our own mail servers...

I'd go with exceeding maximum files size or browser incompatibility.

I would try using internet explorer if you are not already, I'm seen some strange error messages from browser incompatibilities through poorly coded sites.

{shakes head...} 6GB file is actually about 12GB to send, as it is all converted to ascii to send..... This is what FTP is for folks.....

We only did it because we could. hehe Not because it was sensible.

Thanks folks.

I'm not actually sending any attachment when this eror is displayed (as mentioned above wink)

This error is from a tutor group forum where we are required to discuss scientific topics and the results of experiments.

All I'm doing is clicking on 'new message' or 'reply'. The error message is then displayed.

I can't see any reason for this that I'm able to resolve myself... after spending some time trying, so I have emailed the university IT helpdesk.

Thanks for the help & suggestions.

I suggest you email it to your tutor using hotmail or similar and ask the OU tech support to make good with some help!
