In a Z4MC, apart from making the first inch of throttle travel hyper sensitve, what does it do???

With gullible passenger onboard, press the button while saying "This gives me an extra 50 horsepower, yes it does"

"Wow!"

In the M3 (E46) it used to sharpen the throttle and was supposed to add weight to the steering but I never noticed it.

Oh and it does one more thing, it lights up the button saying "Sport"!!!

A lot of people thought this because that's what it does on the M5....but it doesn't. The Sport button in an E46 M3 simply makes the throttle more sensitive, that's it...

...and the Z4M is basically the same car so as above - apart from throttle response, it does nowt!

As above it only sharpens the throttle response, on the non-M Z4's it also adds weight to the steering I believe but the M's have a different steering set up anyhow.

I used to find it made the throttle way to over-sensitive and never used it. However I've been playing around with it a bit more recently and noticed it quite useful when making swift progress, it certainly makes it easier to heel-and-toe, well for me anyhow.

In my 2003 z4 3.0... its makes the throttle over sensitive... and also makes the steering dramatically heavier ( it needs it ... )

So it's fairly cool...altho i wish the steering was like that all the time

Get back in the CSL forum. This is a post about 'pointless' sport buttons, not ones like yours that actually do something. smile

Would it have been that hard to baffle the exhaust, allowing said 'Sport' button to open the flaps a la Porsche?

The sport button makes a mockery of the car IMO and is all but totally useless.

While i was in the local BMW dealers waiting for my car to be returned i was looking round the m3 in the showroom

I asked the salesman what the sport button did and after a little scratching of his head and then going off to consult another salesman he came back and told me that when pushed, all of the BHP was released.

When I asked what he meant he told me that it added 30 - 40 bhp, i asked if he was sure and he said yes it worked just like the m button in my m5

I was quite interested in taking one out but when i looked up what it actually did i was a little underwhelmed by his product knowledge........ needless to say i am not going back to him

I like the Sport button. Leave it turned off while the car is warming up, then turn it on when the car is up to temp.

I do also turn it off when reverse parking tongue out

It definitely helps with heel and toe if you're a city dweller like me. In normal mode my throttle is now so slack I have to practically bury the throttle to get a decent blip. Curses to stop start driving!

Definitely - it is brilliant for Heel&Toe on the SMG.
