Due to the temperemental nature of our beautiful motor cars I wondered if anyone has had the experience of either the RAC or AA roadside assistance/ get you home cover. If so do they work ? are they good value?. I was thinking of a April- September cover when you are most likely to be further from base..

I've used The AA and had to use them twice. Both times they've recovered the vehicle and taken it straight to Racing Green. The first time the drive shaft came undone, they sent a flatbed truck straight out and took the car away. The second time I lost 5th gear, again a flatbed sent straight out and car taken to RG. No quibble, no moan. the only problem I had with the second one was the truck driver had to stop for 40 minutes for his Tacho break, but that's the law not The AA.

I have used the AA relay three times (twice for the TVR and once for the MR2), have used their roadside assistance numerous times, and the home start once. In all of these instances the AA service has been of top quality, efficient, and my cars have been treated with respect. I cannot fault them.

We're with the AA as well. The 100amp fuse popped when the Mrs took the Tiv to work last year so she called the AA. Chap came out in a timely manner and knew his way around the car really well, I was pretty impressed.

I'm with The AA and had to use them a couple of times, 1st was a broken accelerator cable, replaced at the roadside, second was leeking steering rack so they recovered it to Racing Green. I also have the warranty deal with them which helped with the bill for the new rack.

Used to use RAC, but got hacked off with anything upto 3 hours wait for assistance, the worst case was a breakdown 1hr from home it took them 6 hours to get me recovered to home :fume:.
Then found out from an independant recovery firm who had contracts with all the main outfits, that Green flag had a 30-55 min response stipulation in their contract if they exceeded the hour they lost money, so they would always respond to GF over RAC/AA. He said this to me as we passed the M25/M3 junction saying "theres a lady with RAC down there on her own with two kids, and she's been waitng 3hrs now".

Only needed them once when the alternator went in my wifes car on the M25, could not have been more helpful, highly recommend them.

the guy i brought my chimaera from worked for the AA, so if you breakdown in the billericay area you'll be sorted!!!!!

I should add, in balance, I had a good experience of the AA when they rigged up a bypass to a busted 100amp fuse at the road side to get me home.

Still the first experience and their attitude on that day has left a bad taste in my mouth. Intended to change this year but they took the automatic direct debit after I forgot to cancel in time. Bah.
