Hilary Benn has written to David Cameron asking him to rule out any repeal of the fox hunting ban.

Feck me. They are through the bottom of the barrel and into the dirt below.

They are running scared after the Tory lead widened again.

I suspect I am in the majority of people who couldn't give a toss but regardless of whether or not you care about fox hunting one way or the other is it really a voting issue? We are really fked if this tosh is more important than the fact our economy is right up the stter and the feckheads in charge are big chunk of the reason...

Why do MPs still write letters to each other? Surely they could email or even a phone call/

Really though - who else would appoint an ineffectual urbanite vegetarian with an anti-hunting/shooting/fishing agenda to represent the farming community?

So Hillary Benn is admitting that he thinks Labour will lose the election then?

They don't. It was a press release to the media, written to look like a letter.

This is to get attention, nothing more.

It is none of his business.

I think that a Berlin style wall errected just inside the M25 would solve a lot of problems.

In the same way that English MP's dont get to have a say on certain Scottish matters, could we extend that, to ensure that only none veggies who live outside of London get a say on rural affairs, I'm more than happy not to get a say as to what goes on in London in return

I think Nick Herbert may find more friends than Benn.

Didn't the original bill take up more time and cost going back and forth between the two houses than any other, including commiting to two wars etc...

Complete waste of resources and for Labour to drag (pun intended) it up again as a major policy issue is cheap at best.

Don't forget it was also forced through without the approval of the Lords.

Yes, I think the figure was about 600 hours debating on fox hunting whereas the Iraq war got about 3. Shows where Blair's priorities lay.

I didn't give a toss, before the childish way this government approached it, which had fk all to do with animal welfare. I've added it to the pile of voting issues now.

It was 188 to 79 against before Gorbals Mick invoked the Parliament Act.

With you on that one. We don't hunt, nor permit hunting on our land, but we're very happy that the local hunt exist. Quite apart from the employment it provides, it's the only place that can deal with fallen stock quickly. The DEFRA 'scheme' is just a joke.

With the Iraq war. He didn't want that debated, that's why he had on-2-ones with all the waverers to ensure support. Fox hunting was on the manifesto but was a private members bill which ran out of time. Blair himself only voted once out of all of the debates to do with hunting.
