I am looking to get a work stand. It has to be light and compact but stable and functional, I have been recomended this;

I have a very similar one (same make as that) that's almost as good as new after well over 10 years of abuse.

There are a few other similar designs out there, though.

i bought one of these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/LifeLine_Spindoc...

for the money it cant be faulted. its solid enough and handles both road bike and mtb well. it folds down small enough to fit neatly in a clio boot too so it can come to races smile i had to wrap some tape around the bottom supports before pushing the feet onto the to get a good tight fit but other than that its been fine. ideally the clamp fits round tubes but the road bike has a flattened top tube and it sits neatly enough. lots of good reviews too.
