Last night scootering home I pulled up at some traffic lights behind a typically large BMW bike. However, the number plate had been covered up and in its place it said words to the effect of:

"To the Authorities,
If you would like information on this vehicle or its driver please telephone [123456] or alternatively contact [X&Y Consulting, Soho]."

The print was only just large enough to read from a couple of meters away so there's no way a camera would pick it up.

Couldn't believe the cheek - surely he's been pulled over before trying to pull a stunt like that.

Correct - just asking for a pull and a ticket.

May be connected with the belief that if you park in a No Parking area on a pavement, Traffic wardens cannot lift flap to get the Reg No to issue a ticket.
Can anyone explain why not?

Couldn't they get the registration number from the tax disc which they are required to display??

Cheers Nick.

New phenomenon to me and cannot see why not if vehicle on a Highway or road. Highway having the wider definition.

Tampering with a vehicle under RTA 88 S 25 only covers brake or other part of its mechanism (a flap is not).

Suggested that offence to interfere with a motor vehicle under Criminal Attempts Act 1980, but that has to be with intent to steal or TWOC it.

Vehicle on private land I can understand.

Strange.....
