Several interviews later and I've just been told I've got the job, wahey! Looks like I'm moving to London!

I did a bit of pre-emptive house-hunting before I got the job offer (i was looking for a house share) and happened to find a rather fantastic little pad with some great people that I really hit it off with. I now obviously have to work my month's notice, and the owner of the new house is a little worried that they've got an empty room for a month while I stay up here in Cheltenham. To make matters worse they've had interest from someone else who can move in immediately. They've said I'm their preference, but at the end of the day they don't want to lose out on a month's rent waiting for me.

So, bearing in mind that I'm still paying rent in Cheltenham for the next month, and can't afford to pay rent on two places at the same time, what do I offer her to stop her from giving the room to someone else?

I was thinking a couple of hundred? And I could give a deposit now so they know I'm going to run off?

i'd offer the deposit now but not pay any rent for the period in question .. If they prefer you that should be enough for them to decide ..

yes, i've now examined your picture, and can see that you are in a better negotiating position
