Putting aside for the moment that I am cursing you, they are brilliant cars. Check the VIN to make sure that is actually an SL60 of course. So far as I know, there are no problems or weaknesses specific to the SL60 AMG. Of course, AMG parts (like the body kit and wheels) are significantly more expensive than the standard items (multi-piece wheels are £1,000 each, the towing eye cover is about £250), so you should double check for damage. The brakes are standard, the suspension is not, but then shocks last at least 100,000miles and springs indefinitely. If it has ADS suspension, check that it is working. It will be obvious if it is not. The exhaust costs a bomb but should last a very long time. The usual (very few) M119 concerns arise with the motor: mounts; chains, tensioner and rails at 150,000miles; camshaft oil feeder tubes can block. Otherwise they last forever. Service the transmission if you buy it. And they are much faster than any other SL apart from the SL73 AMG: the quoted power output (384bhp) is reckoned to be very conservative so as not to overshadow the SL600 (394bhp): it is reckoned on closer to 420bhp.
There`s a nice SL60 advertised (regularly) in the PH classifieds for just shy of £28k ; it`s a bright blue ex Sultan type motor . I had to question the vendor`s sales technique when the car was subject to a recent article in a Mercedes magazine though ,as he publishes that he bought it from someone on Pistonheads who didn`t know what it was for £10k ! Some room for negotiation I suspect .
I had a SL60 1995 model. 414bhp is the supposed actual BHP rather than the 380 quoted by Merc, mainly due to when released they didn't want AMG to overshadow there flagship SL600.
They are rather a good rocket ship, can sit at 150+ all day. mine appeared to be deresticted too.
All the usual checks above what was mentioned. Electrics, roof operation. AMG bodywork is expensive, the jacking point covers are £70 alone for a tiny piece of plastic. Exhaust and mountings, suspension should be checked as expensive. Verify as well it is of course an original SL60 though. lots of big changes as the years of manufacture went on, so do some research. Alloys are obviously AMG and seen a few fake AMG alloys around. Expensive so make sure they are original. Price on these things is varied. I'd now think you'd be mad to spend more than 12k.
