09TDV8 or 07SC
Discussion
Agree with the previous post. A very strange comparison. The only fair way if price is the issue is to compare same age vehicles. To say 17k is a lot to spend on fuel is a frivolous argument because when the car is sold in say a couple of years time the 09 TDV8 will be worth a hell of a lot more than an 07 SC. Vehicle ownership is all about what I call the exit cost, that being the total cost of ownership during you time in the car : Purchase cost, insurance, tax, fuel, servicing less sale cost. Only then do you get the true running costs. It was proved a few years ago that running a new ford mondeo vs a Lambo that the total running costs were almost identical, due solely on the fact that the lambo's rarity led it to appreciate in value over the year. (this I believe was a national paper that physically did it as apposed to playing number games) They even factored in the finance costs.
I know there are two sides to the fuel debate. Quite rightly someone pointed out to me in a similar debate that a few MPG shouldn't be a deciding factor when you are in this level of vehicle. But it can be worth noting that the difference between TDV8 and SC is actually more likely to be at least 6 mpg. Over 15000 miles per year. Thats approx £1030 more in fuel. Doesn't seem to bad until you realise that ( and I assume if you can afford this vehicle you are 40% tax + 11% NI) you need to earn £2114 to be able to pay for that difference. It starts to add up.
If you're lucky enough to not have to worry about the odd couple of grand then SC all the way.

I was interested to see which represented best value for money... If the 09 was a steal at the price for example but the supercharged overpriced
I was due to test drive both, the 2007 was 1 owner, 36000 miles and sold and serviced by the dealer who has just sold another brand new one to the guy and this is his trade in.
The car is spotless and was awesome on the test drive...
I bought it

You did the right thing...
Supercharged is awesome and I actually did a like for like comparison with mine... I followed someone driving a TDV8 flat out in my S/C and, guess what, there was about 3mpg difference in fuel consumption because I didn't have to work the engine anywhere near as hard
Only reason for choosing diesel is to do loads of really heavy towing (like 3 tonnes +) or for extreme off-road use (i.e. steep rocky climbs, where you need loads of torque at very low speed).
