Hi Guys

Grinning Ultima owner here.
Big thanks to Kyle and Dave at Rushford Performance.
My breathed upon LS2 (standard 400bhp) was dyno'd today and well .......... I'm HAPPY!! bouncebounce

Engine was set up the way it will be in the car. No dyno day trickery. Running car headers, alternator fitted, no mexico city altitude, although i don't know the elevation of Market Drayton.

Hurry up and get it fitted then, will see you well past 500, 5000 and maybe 50'000 (miles that is)

..................look after it and enjoy.

400+ftlbs all the way from 2500 on towards 6000...... seems to have retained perfect street manners too, that cam etc worked out very well indeed!

No boost Spatz. Stock GM intake reversed,GM ECU, selected cam, matched valvetrain and a few other relatively minor build mods. Dyno tuned with EFI live.

7-9psi of intercooled Pro-Charger through this motor and we might expect a conservative 35-40% increase whilst retaining its low-end (<3000rpm) manners, driveability and economy. Personally wouldn't want to push for much more on a stock block/bottom end though. The crate engines are a great bit of kit but you have to remember they were designed to spec, not double the spec and as with most things, probably made by the lowest bidder!

As an old school cam/carbs/revs supporter I have to take my hat off to the LS motor-GM ECU combo.
I think so long as your power goals dont get too wayward, the end user cant get much better for the money.
And as for turbo/superchargers...thats just cheating...............works extremely well thoughbiggrin

looks a nice flat graph... well done

Did they give you a reason for the little drop in HP at 5800rpm.. just after peak and then at 6k jumps back up again.... only small i know but interesting to ask..??

99.9% sure it's minor dyno harmonics/vibration upsetting the knock sensors during unload. Good tip on this when installing your LS motors with the knock sensors activated... make certain theres no chance of contact between the sump and lower x member, also check anywhere else for poss frame contact/vibration.....could easily upset a good tune!

wow, 500 HP out of an LS2 with minor mods ??!!

you know, I can get a used LS2 for about 1.5k pounds around here, even cheaper than that some times. It would be defiantly something I would consider from now on. smile

Hi Graham

I'm extremely happy with the results, as i said before there was nothing secret done to get over the 500 mark. we could have removed the alternator and adjusted timings, fuelings etc to get more comfortably into the 500 band, but thats just cheating.
I know that i have a genuine 500bhpavailable and 450ish lb/ft all the way through even when its on the road.
Yes i know that is flywheel and not rwbhp for anyone thinking it.

So get back to the garage now, you've got some catching up to do.

See you soon

Dave: nice work, great torque curve should be great to drive. My only suggestion is develope a cold air box for your intake. When I ran my Kinsler with open filters similar to what you show the intake air ran as high as 55C on a 90f day. This was most pronunced when the car was heat soaked after a run and then restarted. If it was started from cold and kept moving not as big a problem. I built a box that was open on the top and then covered it with the gold foil thats available from some of the race shops. The Motec is used to data log the inlet temp and outside temp and now they run no more than 2 degrees apart. Anyway great choiceS on your LS2. lEE

Hi Mark - thanks for that. Cant wait to drive it. Hopeing to iron out the little electrical bits over easter, but need to get the fuel rail slightly repaired as my 16 stone on the fuel outlet wasnt a good idea ooopss. its just lightly cracked but just needs a weld to run around the valve DOH!!!!!

Hi Lee - hmmm i'm not overly keen on my air intake at the moment but still haven't decided the best way to go, but i have learnt to dislike the blue silicone pipe over the last few months. Unfortunately i dont like the remote filter in the side grill either. But it will do for now but as i get a few miles under my belt, i will be pondering.

There was a rumour round certain parts about a bent trolley jack whilst doing a wiring job but nothing about fuel rails, when was this Mr H ??

was a few weeks back, being careless whilst leaning over the engine. Lesson - always watch where your fat belly is!
