palmtops... where do I start
Discussion
Guys and Gals,
I have come to the conclusion that I am in need of a Palmtop to organise my fuddled little mind, but not sure where to start.
Basically I want a computerised filofax, with any add-ons a bonus.
1) Can anyone know any good places to buy on line? Is Dixons competitive?
2) Can anyone recommend any makes/models?
Any other general info (e.g: about the ease of user interface) very welcome.
Muchos gracias...

Depends entirely on how much you want to do with one. For starters you could look at the iPaq or the Palm for "basic" filofax functions. The new version iPaqs ship with biometric scanners as standard for added security too. If you want you can add stuff like GSM or GPRS and get rid of your mobile phone. The new XDA II runs the same software (MS Mobile 2003), but has the GPRS built in, so may be worth a look. It's also pretty much an iPaq anyway. Then of course you can look at the satnav and speed camera add ons too.
They are all around the £350 mark, but for the XDA it might be worth talking to one of the high street mobile phone shops about deals and tariffs. For the iPaq you could buy direct or have a look at some of the price comparison websites, such as kelkoo.co.uk.

If you just want to have an electronic 'organiser' look at Palm. The basic one (Zire) is 59GBP, which will store phone numbers, addresses, has a calendar, notepad & todo list and you can add other software.
If you want more functions, colour, and expandability, look at the Palm Tungsten range or the Sony Clie range.
If you want an all singing all dancing 'mini laptop in a pda' go for the ipaq or top end clie.
