Chilworth?, Chichester?, Lymington?, Bucklers Hard?
Discussion
Hi All,
Local knowledge required please
Mrs Kiwi and I are heading down your way next Friday night. We are ideally looking for a nice country hotel (Max £100 Bed and Breakfast), with a good bar/ restaurant or decent local pub nearby.
We aren't precious about where we end up on the South Coast, as long as we find decent Guinness, Sauvignon, Food, and somewhere for 24 hours of relaxation without the kids. A fireplace and comfy sofa would be ideal
We have had suggestions for Goodwood Park Hotel, Master Builders, Stanwell House, and Chilworth Manor.
Does anyone have any local insight into the towns these are located please?
The last thing we want is a nice room in a pleasant hotel... right beside a rubbish pikey pub

Master Builders is handier for Bournemouth, is a very nice area too, on the Beaulieu river in the New Forest. Bit of a walk from Montys Brassiere or the Montague Arms in Beaulieu. You can also have a nose in the garage.. theres a lovely 911 in there at the moment.. Or pop in to the Motor Museum and see the Top Gear exhibit
ETA Lymington is closer to Bmouth, but not as nice a location as Bucklers Hard, generally.

The Goodwood park would be my top tip. It's lovely and if you are a petrol head, there are lots of little motorsport related trinkets of interest there
. I now live right by the Chilworth arms and work on the science park where the Chilworth manor is. Give it a wide berth, it's expensive and not worth it.

Next weekend Bournemouth is hosting the Sunseeker Rally, http://www.rallyesunseeker.co.uk/index.htm, so that might give you something to aim for/avoid depending on the boss's enthusiasm...

I have stayed at a couple of these hotels - they are good value, have nice restaurants and most of them have pools etc.

I am sure you could get a deal at this time of the year.

Carey's Manor in the New Forest - you might get a room in your budget, and a little bit more you can mong out in the Spa - lovely
We went there last year. The spa was lovely, and the hotel areas nice. Given the good feedback everyone has about this hotel, we must have been unlucky as our room was a bit dated and run down. I'd go back, but check when I booked about the standards of the rooms. If there was a refurbished one, I'd ask for it

Yeah Bucklers Hard is very nice and Beaulieu village is very pleasant for a wander round. Not too far away from Lyndhurst too, which means you can have a nice look at the Stallions Meridien's as well!

Thanks all for the advice.
I have booked Goodwood Park direct with the hotel themselves. £140 for B + B + £50 dinner credit on the final Food/ Bar bill.

However, I'm still going to keep an eye on the Master Builders for a late room rate this week (sometimes down as low as £45!), as the Goodwood Park room can be cancelled up to Thursday with no penalty.
