My home town, Middlesbrough, try to get passed the accent.

Could be interesting Labour heart land, on the day Corus is supposed to be closing.

Alot of disaffected Labour voters. Good ol' northern honesty, unless there's too many students in the audience.

As people on TV have already said, they have two plants opening in India and millions in EU funding for the dutch plant..................... UK plant is far easier to close and doesnt form part of their long term plans

ETA

Somebody in another thread came up with an interesting point, due to carbon trading thingamy points, they will also stand to make millions simply by manipulating the global warming loony schemes

Yes thats the suggestion it's not like this furnace can be just switched back on, once its off, it is essentially destroyed, and when the upturn comes and this plant does make special high quality steel, not all steel is the same (even if sold to someone else) is just gone. And only we let foreigners buy it up, and as I understand it Tata went around the plant and tapped the expertise to improve their steel to the same quality (you know how the tories said the future of our manufacturing was niche high value, specialty products), if its not steel it's other brands, and our manufacturing is offshored, the French, the Germans, the US wouldn't allow this, even if it were legal, they would find away of not selling to johnny foreigner in the first place, and would perhaps still have some loyalty, national interest (even if only privately, nudge-nudge) ahead of just short term profit.
