Been looking at one as a lease car, website implies that the M Sport version has a USB interface wheras the SE version does not? Basically I want the proper ipod interface not just an aux input iyswim.

Anyone own one, good/bad/ugly

I’m not 100% sure about the functionality of the IPod system, i just run my IPod of the Aux input which is ok but not great. Would the USB interface just charge the IPod?

I had a 520d M Sport Touring for 10 months with my last job, overall I liked it a lot, the car tax was nice and low which made it better. At the time i was doing nearly 1000miles a week and it was very comfortable, of course it’s not the quickest off the lights but to be honest once it’s up to cruising speed its quick enough. Of course people will say that nothing short of a 535d will do but its all relative.

Not that quick off the lights? All relative I guess but 0-60 is about the same as my current v70, so I doubt I'd notice. I can't afford to run anything bigger right now, but the 520 is good enough for a towcar too for when I get a properly fast weekend/track toy....... when...

Re the USB port, my understanding that as well as charging, you get a proper interface so you change tracks, view artists/albums/playlists from the i-drive, much like Audi AMI - basically an in-dash replication of the ipod controls itself..

My 2006 520d M Sport has a proper ipod interface ie control it and get all the tracklists etc through the idrive (Ipod in the glovebox and forget about it), so would hope that a 4 years newer car would too.

I believe you need the USD socket for full iPod functionality. If it's just Aux In I don't think it will work with iDrive...that is definitely the case in my X5.

Thats what I thought.... good to know it is available on odler cars so may look at self financing a 2nd hand.

One thing that bugs me searching for 2nd hand cars, even on manufacturers websites (as opposed to autotrader) is you cant search for specific options
