Ford F6 Typhoon

Turbo Power for Ozzie Saloon

Ford in Australia are in a constant battle with GM to produce the most desirable hot saloons - a battle that shows no sign of making the trip to the UK where Vectras and Mondeos are content to battle for the attention of reps and fleet managers.

Down under however, performance is given a higher priority. Ford Performance Vehicles is set about to unveil its latest weapon in the war - the turbo-charged F6 Typhoon concept car.

Ford F6 Typhoon

David Flint, Managing Director of Ford Performance Vehicles blurted excitedly "We believe the F6 Typhoon will further strengthen our position as the technical leaders in the tribal high-performance vehicle market. It will demonstrate our commitment to providing a family of cars that offer a Total Performance package .”

It's no V8 for the Typhoon though. It will be powered by a high-performance turbo-charged and intercooled 4.0-litre six cylinder engine. More information, including power and torque outputs, will be released at the Melbourne Motor Show on February 27.

Come on Ford, lets have some Fast Passenger Vehicles here!

Sounds like the same engine as this one:

Would've hoped for slightly better than 322hp but I guess it can't be sniffed at

Cheers,
Rob

It's a well known fact that the standard Falcon XR6T (same engine as the Typhoon) has a well restrictive inlet, exhaust and fuel/boost map to keep the power reigned in lower than the flagship XR8 Quadcam V8.... It's not a hard task to add a bigger intercooler than standard, aftermarket inlet and exhaust manifolds and a re-chip and gain upwards of 80kW.... not bad bang for bucks really! I'd imagine that in the Ford/Holden battle, ford have realised that instead of just upping the bar a rung as they both have been doing the past few years that Ford have decided to blow them outta the water..... should be interesting.

Looks better than the HSV although exciting car design seems to have passed the Australians by.

Actually, no they weren't.... the current shape Falcon (BA) that the Typhoon is based on has only been out for about 10-12 months... the MGZT/Rover 75 has been around for a good deal longer..... the previous shape falcon (AU) were a different body style and looked a lot different and the cars before that (EB-ELII) were all based on a completely different platform and looked even more different again..... believe me, in the flesh, these cars look NOTHING like an MG.... I should know... I passed a couple of dozen on the way into work this morning.... common as muck

Leave it to the Aussies- sure, it's big & powerful, but can it go round corners? Like the look of it though. MG?
