Has anyone got any experience of Paying for tickets on Ebay before the buyer has got them, if you know what i mean?

The tickets I want are for a gig in the Summer so the tickets aren't realeased yet. If I win two tickets and pay for them now will I end up getting shafted?

Probably. How is the seller guaranteed the tickets if they arent released yet? Sounds dodgy to me.

Why not wait till the release and try to get some yourself.

If that fails there will be no shortage on ebay.

Tried it with festival tickets. Laid out about 1000 quid, then the guy became a bit crap - no copy of confirmation e-mail to prove he had tickets, no details, no contact. Finished up having to e-mail his mum(it was her paypal account).

It was getting to the point where I was about to claim a refund, but ebay stepped in and automatically refunded me anyway on the grounds that the goods couldn't be supplied before their buyer protection expired. I never actually got shafted, but it's easy to see how I could have. However, I probabaly would still buy tickets on e-bay, but I'd buy nearer to the event(even factoring in that it may be more costly) and try to go for COD for an actual ticket.

As a matter of interest, have you tried Scarlet Mist or some of the other reseller sites? They tend to be a bit better set up for tickets.

Sorry, I should've qualified that a bit better. They have been on sale and are sold out. The seller does not hae the tickets in hand until nearer the gig.

Only way to do it is to buy the tickets and physically go and collect them.

Thing is if you buy them now and the concert is in 8 months, paypal won't allow you to make a claim.

Thanks all. Good PH advice as always.

Just checked the time limit on paypal transactions, I didn't realise there was one, it's 45 days from date of payment after which your on your own.

I did, took a chance, asked the guy to send me proof that he had paid and that they were awaiting despatch, and it all worked out fine. Mate of mine does this regularly and assured me it's normal procedure.

Suppose it depends what the seller's feedback is, how big of a seller he is.

As mentioned above, if he fails to deliver the tickets - PayPal will not refund you any money (or let you open the dispute) due to a limited timeframe.

Why not get them from seatwave or similar?

I'd agree and look on Seatwave.

They work on the principle that you pay your money, they hold it in escrow I think and the seller only gets paid once you either have the tickets in your hand or after the actual event.

Not sure if you can diddle it by saying they never turned up etc... but equally, your money has already left your account and I'm sure they have procedures to cover this.

I have done it lots of times (over 10) its a question of trusting the seller - look at feedback etc and as mentioned, maybe aim for those where you can go and pick up in cash,

Be careful though - if you don't receive your tickets, your Paypal protection only covers you for 45 days from when you paid.

It might be less for tickets after last years Michael Jackson fiasco - check before you buy.

I've sold a couple of tickets on ebay - I actually had hold of them though & it was about a week before the event (Six Nations & FiL couldn't go). Got a good price for them as well.

Check the sellers feedback properly before you buy - don't just look at the percentage score.

i've done it, i was very wary too because of the possible cons and the 45 day limit, and the fact yuo buy tickets months before the gig but they only get sent out 2 weeks before.

As already said, check their feed back and it'll be ok.
I got my tickets and had one of the best nights of my life.
