Hi all,
I am wondering if you could tell me what I get for a Weekend First class Upgrade on a virgin train from Manchester to London,

Will i get any food/drinks if I upgrade?

I guess looking at the Virgin Website will be a good start!

Not really, I can't find the place where it tells you that you don't get any free stuff with a Weekend upgrade.

If you click through the meals you'll notice it says weekdays and the times they are available.

It's only a tenner or so to upgrade though IIRC.

Exactly, virgin website says nothing about weekends. Since im travelling on Sunday I was wondering if it will be worth the extra cash

No food or drinks on a weekend service so you're just paying for a better seat!

£10 I think to upgrade on the day.

I'd simply see how busy the regular carriages are. If they're not very full, no real point upgrading. If busy, go sit in 1st and pay the upgrade when ticket geezer arrives.

You can still get complimentary hot drinks/snack box from the buffet car I think if you upgrade at weekends...

I was on an overcrowded train from oop north to London on Thursday and as I was one of the unlucky ones standing I was offered a seat in First Class FOC(none of the fancy services, just a seat).Apart from a slightly larger seat I couldnt really see any benefit to paying more for it if there is seating available in cattle class.

You also get free WiFi in first class. So if you've packing a laptop or smartphone that could be worth it to help pass the time.

Last time I travelled on Virgin there was almost no 02 service for much of the journey, and 3G was a joke! (Not blaming Virgin, that's O2 not covering the West Coast Mainline!)

You get a "snackbox" plus soft / hot drinks and biscuits. But you have to get it yourself from buffet car (don't forget to hold your nose as you pass by the plebs) wink
