I have only owned my Cerbera a relativly short while and not done many miles in it I am just starting to explore the cars handling a little more and find that the rear does not inspire confidence. Everything is standard for a 2001 car except the Nitrons which I know are set soft. Tyres are as recommended and have tried different pressures to no major gain. It has the droplink kits fitted. How well can I expect the Cerbera to handle especially applying power relative to rear end control?
Working away at the present but does anyone live locally so we could compare. Yarmouth/Norwich.
First couple of thousand miles and love it even more than the wife hates it. In fact that may be why I love it.

Hi, have you been very drunk in the company of strange men recently? if so that why your rear end feels strange.

Anyway i live in lowestoft and have a cerb but this time of year is not really best for getting a feel for the car, how long have you had it and have you driven it in the summer with warm dry roads? but when the roads are better your more thn welcome to campare.

If in doubt give scole engineering a look, there the boys for tvr around here.

Yes I have driven in warm dry conditions and it feels as though grip is good front and rear but the back end is trying to tuck under when trying to apply power in anything other than moderate to tame power levels on the way out.
Can you give a Cerbera a fair bit of right foot out of a bend if you do it in a controlled fashion?
Apparently summer is coming in about 2 weeks so would be good to meet up Newberry. Thanks for reply.

Maybe you need more negative camber at the rear, I believe it's quite easy to adjust.

Not sure what you mean by "tuck in" do you mean the back end is over steering in a bend? It will do if you give it "more than moderate power levels" in a bend, its a very light car with a lot of power, you can make the rear dance very easily, part of the ownership experience with a Cerb, needs to be treated with respect. Even in the dry - heavy amounts of power should be applied in a straight line, as should heavy braking.

Hi Erich fair comment and I certainly am not used to 350 BHP but it is a flexing type feel rather than being provoked outboard. As said my Nitrons are set soft and when I know what I am doing I shall adjust (any one got Nitrons tell me what notch they use).
Shall look into my rear end farmyard pants as you suggest. It certainly would make sense. Thanks.

Heard of this before with Nitrons, some good people on here have mentioned it before, I think it is setting related, I would suggest a full suspension set up with corner weighting and so on should sort it. If you want some thing quicker select a corner where you can feel your back end tucking under and then start tweeking the shocks and try again and repeat as needed.

Cheers Gruffalo, good idea. I must admit me thinks shocks too soft mainly.
May just have an amatuerish go and newberry's advice for Scole seems good after that.
The tyres seem very soft and look good with the rubber dropping off in the couple of thousand miles I've done in her.(evenly)
Did have a quick look at Scole the day before coming offshore and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the number of TVR's they had there.
Thanks for input guys.

Unless doughnutting in your works car park or taking a certain large roundabout on the A4 with the back end out at 30 degrees (on the way to getting all new tyres...). biggrin

Mine are getting set softer and softer to take up the local poor bumpy roads. I think currently I'm something like 8 and 6 (I must remember to write them down) from soft.

Try 2 clicks harder on the rear dampers mate, its pretty simple to do. The adjusters are found on the top of the rear dampers, just the car up one side at a time and you can reach in from the wheel arch, over the top of the tyre.

Thanks for that I shall have a go soon as I get home. I know I'm currently set to 2nd softest setting so shall try 8 at the back and 6 at the front and see where we go from there.
Shall enjoy trial and hopefully no error. Cheers GT4 Baz and Byker28i.

As a foot note just to mention have now set up trial and error fashion taking the rear nitrons to the hardest setting and then backing off until I got the poor handling characteristic return. (set at 8 on the rear, was 1)
The difference is amazing and the ride does not seem a lot harsher but it now handles much more like expected.
I think a pro set up is still in order but well chuffed with the improvement.

Just out of interest as I am having the Nitron's fitted in a couple of weeks time, what settings have you found best?

I have really only played about with the settings but the difference is amazing. The front and rear are now both set to 2 clicks off of the max damping setting. I must admit the testing I did was not at all scientific and 'well that still is not uncomfortably hard' so leave it there. It is only the first 2 notches that seem to exibit the poor handling originally experienced.
I did take the shocks off for a clean up and they are a real quality looking bit of kit and look brand new after several years on the car.(according to receipts)
I will get them set up proffesionally next month when the car goes in for a tune up and service.

Changed mine for slightly firmer as they were a little bouncy, I'm 8 clicks from softest on the rear and 10 from softest on the front. Front outrigger height is 130mm from the road and rear is 140mm from the road. It's worked out as the best all around compromise for me.

Thanks chaps, I will try these and see how I go.

Suspension is actually being fitted by SRT8 SIX, they seem to really know there stuff but I will be playing with them myself and will use this as my starting point.

Roads down here seem to have taken a real bashing from the cold this year and not just pot holed but bumpy as hell as well now, it will be interesting to see if I can get a setting where SWMBO doesn't moan and the car will still go round corners.

Just out of interest what do you use for track days, same or do you go harder?
